Default Leaving a car for 6 onths

I'm having to go away in the near future for up to 6 months.
I'm intending to keep my car on an open air site, under a car cover.
However I'd like some advice on what I need to do to make sure I still
have a useable car when I get back!

It's a Mk2 Golf.

If you think about it , caravans are not used for much part of the winter,
(i'm not a caravaner but became interested in some of the products)
Disconnect the earth lead, if you are sure the car will be secure.

there is a product by fenwick called overwinter
it appears to be a thick wax that can be applied to a body and easily
removed with a wash when required

Overwintering is formulated to protect caravans and motorhomes during winter
storage. Its unique formula protects against algae, mould, fungus, airborne
pollutants, acid rain and bird lime.

Overwintering is easily applied using a spray once the unit has been
cleaned. 1 litre provides 50m2 of coverage. The Overwintering layer will not
crack in frosty conditions, wash off with rain or snow, or melt in warm
sunshine, but it is easily removed in springtime with a solution of Fenwick'
s Caravan Cleaner or Motorhome Cleaner.
Overwintering is biodegradable.
Size. 1 Litre

I was interested in the bobby dazzler for use on cars

If you can, get it undercover. Tree sap etc. really can be a pain to get off
old paint after time (my car was bought from someone who didn't believe in
washing cars). If not, I'd use that overwinter stuff rather than a car
cover, as they tend to flap around in the wind and could scratch your paint.
Make sure there's lots of air in the tyres, and a fairly empty fuel tank as
I've heard unleaded goes off a bit. And take the earth lead off to keep your
battery from going flat.

You are better off with a fuller tank as long as there is no chance of some
low-life cutting the pipe to get fuel. It reduces the condensation because less
air moves in and out with the daily temperature variation. In the UK, fuel
keeps pretty well - I think the US cars get problems with poorer quality fuel.

If you have an alarm fitted, the battery will need recharging from time to time.
If you don't, by all means disconnect the battery.

Any ideas of places around Swindon/Reading where I can store a car in a
garage? Need one if I want to suspend my insurance whilst I'm away.

Ring the local council, they usually have garages for rent.

6 months is nothing. Mine was parked for 3 years. I charged the fully
drained battery and it started right up. The battery even survived the next
3 years.

Only removing the battery should be enough...
