believe the 99 onwards VW use some 'thinner' solution that does not clog the jets, anyways VW is shut today, are there any alternative brands to use? TIA |

I've always used bog standard stuff. IMO the only thing that's going to clog the jets is mould if the water bottle's been filled with plain water at some point. |

Have you seen how some anti-freeze re-crytalizes? Don't use em for a couple of months and you'll see in the pipes [1] Bog standard water is better than some solutions. At this time of year you'll probably be fine though, you'll get through it quicker than you can put it in. [1] Took me hours to sort mine out the car had been doing 4000 miles a year, the fronts weren't so bad, but it would have probably worked out quicker to replace the pipe to the back than clean it out. -- Jon B real email to usenet at jonbradbury dot com |

I work for VW group and can confirm that the main problem is with the
newer fan type washer jets, as JonB says they do tend to crystallise and block the jets. This is s much bigger problem with heated jets. You can add a little methylated spirit to the washer bottle to help, but is best to use the proper stuff. Hope this is of some help. PS, Don't use washing up liquid as people used to do years ago Dave. Jon B wrote: Doki wrote: "Avanti" wrote in message o.uk... It is the fan type, I think I will be able to holdout until Monday....the'proper'stuff is not expensive and lasted me over a year. |

TIA I use Halford own brand, non dillute and rated down to minus 8, good for clearing frost and ice off the windscreen easily. |

I got some oe yesterday, had to get 3* 500ml cos i never had any cash was 2.46ukp and vw didn't accept card payment below 5ukp :-( I have the fan spray nozzles and was informed by a non vw employee that the other stuff can clog the nozzles, trouble is already the rear nozzle is hardly pumping up the screen after only 8k5 miles :-( it's not frozen btw. |

The halfords stuff is thin anyway so no clogging problems there. Its nice to see people in the car park at night scraping their windows off while I sit there and spray for a few seconds. |

Can heated washer jets be post fitted easily (and at a reasonable price ) ?? Robert |

It isn't the fact that one additive is thinner than another, it is down
to the fact that some of the additives crystallise - especially with heated jets. Slight cristalisation can cause problems with the fan type jets that VW group like to use so much - god love 'em.
