Hi,
Continuing saga of my 1990 golf... The current symptoms a- The car always starts first time, after about 10 miles running, when it reaches normal operating temperature, the car looses power and starts 'missing'. Eventually the car stops. Funnily, if I turn off the engine, wait a few seconds, and re-start, the car is fine afterwards. Perculiar? (I do not think that it is a choke problem as I checked the choke flap this morning when I had the problem and it was in the open position.) I don't suppose anyone has experienced this problem in the past? ...and better still, fiound a solution. (This is almost the opposite problem that I had the other day.) TIA Colin |

Yep, that was what did it on mine, although to start with it would run a lot better if you cleaned the hall sender contacts which was quick and easy to do. -- Jon B real email to usenet at jonbradbury dot com |

TIA Colin I repaired a Golf with the same fault, it was dirt in the carb float chamber. The dirt is at the bottom of the chamber, when the car starts, it moves up to the top and blocks the jet and stops fuel flow. It then falls to the bottom of the chamber and the whole process begins again when the engine starts. The dirt in question can be so small it can't be seen. Steve |

TIA Colin And after you have restarted it, does it then repeat the process after a few miles or is it then okay? This may be a long chance, but I will mention it anyway. A friend borrowed my car once, filled it with petrol and forgot or lost the tank cap. He chose another one from the box of "lost" tank caps at his local garage. Seemed fine, but what he didn't know was that the cap he chose didn't have an air bleed hole and as petrol was pumped from the tank it slowly ended up with a back vacuum that was too strong for the petrol pump to overcome. So the car faltered and stopped every ten miles or so. It took ages to work out what was happening. That's all. Bill |

I've got the same problem as Colin, but mine is a 95 golf, 2L GL.
I've replaced the fuel pump and relay, distributer, computer relay and ignition switch and a computer analysis doesn't show anything up and the problem still persists. Is there anything relating to emission controls? "Colin" wrote in message ... Hi, Continuing saga of my 1990 golf...
