Oh yes, reconnect it. Take a bit of care to engage the inner square section
drive - it's all a bit of a feel though behind there. The smaller the hands the better really. The cable shaft drives a disc that spins in a magnetic field and generates a bit of current, which moves the needle round against a hair-spring. the faster it spins, the more current and the further the needle moves across the dial. The only electrical connection in the speedo is the lights - there's no power connected to the speed or mileage measuring part of the device at all. Your 'new' alternator working proves the rest of your parts are fine. The only problem your stereo might cause is in running the battery down - and it would need to be lots of Watts. I'm assuming you have more respect for your hearing. -- Dave. UK VW Type 3 & 4 Club http://www.hallvw.clara.co.uk/ ------ "essexgirl" wrote in message ... On that note dave would you reccomend re-connecting my speedo cable up then. I assumed the battery charge lamp since its in the same circuit ( or same dash cluster) that there was a possibility of the sticky speedo needle causing it. Maybe not. Im just speculating. The car stereo wouldnt have anything to do with it would it? If there was a problem with the car stereo in any way electrical then the fuse would go puting the stereo and the interior light off wouldnt it? I have read since posting about this that the blue wire wears away from the diode/windings inside the alternator and some people have been succesfull in pushing the wire in when testing. tbh its a pain in the ass and a real time waster messing about with intermittent faults especially electrical ones on alternators. This is also not a good time of year to put money out for parts either lol. Spent the morning driving around today giving it another good run. Good ole scrappy alternator doing its job. Since its a bosch i imagine its a bit more reliable than any cut price re-cons. You can let me know ur input on th espeedo thing dave. Cheers. Essexgirl |

Jon B, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. No-one posted a binary,
least of all me. Essexgirl posted an E-bay URL on the second attempt. I just pointed out there was no photo - didn't try posting one. It's very hard sometimes to work out who posted what without looking up archives or counting the ''s but be assured I wouldn't post binaries anyway - I've been on here too many years to make that mistake. It wouldn't be such a problem these days with broadband, but it was a pain when on dial-up at 28kbps there was a 250KB picture to download as the pennies clicked up on the bill. (Full text requoted below for research purposes only!). -- Dave. Don't worry Dave I didn't think you'd posted one, but I thought with Essex girls reply to your post saying no picture that maybe a picture had been stripped. I specifically use a newsreader that supports neither those nor html, and even though I have BB 90% of the time I'm regularly on the mobile too whilst on the road. -- Jon B real email to usenet at jonbradbury dot com |
