Hi,
Over the last few weeks I seem to have developed a small problem with my 1990 Golf (petrol 1600). When cold the choke operates fine, car starts straight away, but after about 100 yards the car seems to be very juddery and looses power. (Similar effect to when one of the plug leads is arcing out.) After some miles (15?) the car seems to behave perfectly. I have replaced the spark plugs, HT leads, Distributer cap and rotor arm. Problem is still there. The car has done 150K miles and so I don't want to spend a fortune on it... Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next? TIA, Colin |

TIA, Colin 150,000- just run in then :-) Assuming the car runs well when fully warm: Possibly the choke pull-down unit, or it could be the grommet problem Dave Hall has documented very well on his website at http://www.hallvw.clara.co.uk/jettachoke.htm. If you mail me with your email address I can send you some info that might help with checking the pull-down unit. Watch out for the spamtrap though. |

If you have got a carb rather than FI, it sounds as if the choke pull-down unit
isn't backing off the choke for driving. As a first action, check all the vacuum hoses are connected correctly and undamaged. If this doesn't do the problem, take a look at the pages at www.hallvw.clara.co.uk/jetta2E2.htm which may help. if it's not a 2E2 carb, ignore what I've said! If the old plugs were significantly black, it does suggest a choke problem. -- Dave. UK VW Type 3 & 4 Club http://www.hallvw.clara.co.uk/ ------ "Colin" wrote in message ...
