Hey all....
I have a Mk3 J plate Golf 1.8 cl, the engine was overheating in traffic but not when driving normally. So I changed the thermo switch in the radiator - no change! I then drained the system and changed the thermostat and the water pump. After filling with water (thought i'd test with water in case i had to re-drain if there were any leaks)the temp gets to 110 C without the fan cutting in, hotwired the fan and ran it constantly but this made no difference, top rad hose is nearly melting, bottom is still cold...water seems to back up and bubble out of the water resevoir?? I would really appreiate any advice! Thanks |

Bad thermostate. Cold bottom hose indicates that there's no water
circulating through the radiator. SFC "Sharkman" schreef in bericht lkaboutautos.com... Hey all.... Marc Yep, sounds like a blocked radiator, unless your new thermostat is faulty. |

Thank for all the advice, excellent site!!
Flushed radiator, ran with no thermostat, hotwired fan again....then looked at the expansion tank cap, the o-ring was in the wrong place somehow??? Now it seems to be running fine, no overheating, engine sits at about 88 C and the fan cuts in at about 90 C. I'll replace the cap with a new one on monday just to be sure! Thanks again, have a legend day. |
