IIRC I paid just over 100 for rear discs and pads , seems I was undercharged
though...

I paid just over £50 for front disks and pads on my mk3 gti 16v (both sides)
and about 3 hours of labour....I am not a mechanic....it is a very easy job.
Main problem I had was the tiny grub screw which holds the disk onto the hub
was totally seized....ended up whacking the disk off with a hammer!!!!

I took the Golf to a local tire and exhaust outfit and they said the pads
are fine and called the VW dealers a bunch of *******s.... From my
experience I'm beginning to agree.......

I expect they then said your shock absorbers needed changing, the tracking was
way out and the battery wouldn't last another winter... ;-)

It is so nice when you find people who aren't trying to rip you off. Luckily
for me they are still fairly common in the country (and I don't mean that in a
disrespectful way!).
