Default 97 onward Passat Boot/Trunk lid leak

There's not many ways in - I assume the skin is folded over the edge and
bonded to the underframe, and there's a gap in the bonding somewhere, or
maybe the badge is leaking (if it's on the panel in a Passat) - any more
possible ways in?

Can you blow air into one of the bump-stop holes and detect where it's
coming out, or brush soapy water on the underside seam and look for bubbles.
Or simply reseal the whole seam with clear silicone sealer!

Hi guys

My 1997 newer shape passat has developed a leak somewhere around the
boot lid, such that water is getting into the boot lid cavity as
opposed to the boot itself.

Has anyone heard of this before and found a solution.

At the moment I have to remove the rubber boot lid bump stops to drain
the water.

Thanks in anticipation

Adrian H
