I had the misfortune to have my car broken into last weekend - the CD
tuner is gone and now I have a driver's side lock which doesn't work... Apparently, golfs are particularly easy to get into. In this case the thief got in by sticking a screwdriver (I guess) underneath the handle and breaking the lock mechanism. My local mechanic says he can fix it for around £50 + price of new lock if necessary. But he also mentioned that VW produced a special (metal?) plate that fits under the handle to protect against such an intrusion. He thought that there was one for the Mk II, he wasn't sure whether it also applied to the Mk III. Has anyone got one of these, or knows where to get one and how much they cost? Also, is it likely that the lock would need to be replaced? How much do they cost? I tried to remove the driver's side handle and barrel yesterday, but there was a metal catch that was preventing its removal. I could do this easily on the passenger's side, which suggests that the metal catch shouldn't be there in normal circumstances... I'd be grateful for any help. Seriously pi**ed off.. Piotr |
