David McLennan waffled on in a quite bewildering manner to produce...
Hello, Could anyone out there make any recommendations on a good garage to carry out some work on my beloved MK II golf? I need two things fixed: a) Some little ba5t**d tried to break in by levering the drivers door handle off the car. They were scared away when the alarm went off, but I now have a drivers side door that will not open and shut correctly. b) I have continuing (carburetion/compression?) problems with my 1.6. (New Webber fitted a year ago) - poor idling, low torque at low to medium revs, slight surging during deceleration while in gear. Top end power is there aplenty though. I don't mind paying a little over the odds, as long as the quality of the work is up to scratch and they take the time for me to explain the problems to them. (Test drive for example). They need to be in Greater London if possible, although further out to the North or West is OK as long as there are train routes nearby.. Thank you all very much in advance. Cheers, Dave. drivers side door handle will take approximately 2 minutes to replace Open the door Take the chrome or black strip out of the middle of the handle, there's two screws behind it, undo them. if you look at the edge of the door, by the lock, there's another screw. Undo it remove handle. Put the little rubber grommety things that go between the handle and the door on the new handle Unscrew the barrel from the old handle (put key into handle first) Withdraw barrel, put it in the new handle, screw barrel in, check it turns. put new handle on, tighten screws. replace chrome strip. Job done. Pete M |

And get yourself some Armoured Door Plates from C & R's
http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/, that should stop the buggers!! AndyR VR6 Unfortunately they dont really work on the determined scumbag :-( I've got these armor plates, and some little w*nker still managed to get in. He just stuck the screwdriver in between the armor plate and the handle - where the rubber seal is. Crude diagram: |-------| | |------------------| | |-xx---------------| |-------| xx is where he stuck the screwdriver. The good thing is he didnt damage the door where he managed to break in :-/ So at least i havent got chewed up metal. |

When somebody tried getting past mine, the scumbag only damaged the lock, gave up, and took the rear quarter window out followed by the boot changer instead. -- Jon |
