golf mk2 stalling by B Briggs
My mk2 1.8 has been stalling. Usually it's when I'm in town and have to stop quickly. I put in the clutch and the revs drop to zero. It always starts right back up. It doesn't happen all the time. Every once and awhile the revs drop to zero then it bounces up to 2500, then normal idle. It's a 90 with about 155000 miles. Otherwise runs strong and has a fairly recent timing belt, plugs, cap,...

Heating problem by K Morgan
I've got a 2000 mk4 Golf GTI 1.8T, 120K miles. Two or three years ago I was getting erratic temperature readings, this was cured by replacing the coolant temperature sensor. All has been working fine until a few months ago; the car only reaches temperature if stationary other than that it's one or two markers below when on the move. Two weeks ago I had the 'water Pump' replaced with a cam...

95 Passat by George[_7_]
Problem: Security light on the driver's side door flashes normally for about 30 seconds. Then it flashes more rapidly (about twice as fast). The alarm (horn) sounded at 6 AM yesterday. Does ayone know what the cause could be? How can I permanently disable the alarm system, other than opening the trunk lid prior to locking, then closing the trunk lid? Where are the switches located that...

heavy power steering by Joseph Craine
On my golf the power steering is noticeable quite light and easy. On my wifes golf its quite heavy, I've checked the fluid and its on full. The garage who fixed the broken exhaust mount noticed there is a slight week on the power steering pipe and howed me it was just sweating and he said worth mentioning but not worth fixing not sure if this can cause heavy power steering. Also a scan...

Cambelt\waterpump\idler\tensioner change cost ? by Joseph Craine
Its come to that time again to have the cambelt changed. I've been using a local vw specialist who do the jobs I can't like this one. I got a few quotes today and the vw specialist quoted me £246.75 for the cambelt, waterpump, idler, tensioner, g12 coolant and if brought in by 9 will be given back to me by 5 ? does that sounds a good price ? (seems reasonable to me) and using genuine parts...

Manifold pressure sensor fault by Joseph Craine
I was giving my mk4 golf (1.6 se auto) a routine scan with vag com and it shows a manifold pressure sensor short to B+ fault. I cleared the fault and have driven about 3 miles and the fault has not returned. The car drives fine, no loss of power or anything, no extra petrol being used, all seems well. Any ideas if this is something to worry about ? (any ideas where this sensor is so I can...

Heating problem by Rob[_15_]
Stephen wrote: "Rob" wrote in message First you have to check the waterpump is working correctly. Pull the hose off the header tank (when cold) and give the engine a rev and water should squirt out - if it just dribbles then its a waterpump. Hi rob, thanks for the info. I'll wait for it to cool down first then try and pray its not the waterpump. I'll...

Varta batteries by nick
Does anyone have any definitive written information on the Manufacturer's Warranty for Varta batteries? Specifically a Varta Blue Dynamic B18 45Ah, 420A. Ours is failing fast and the supplier is trying to tell us the Warranty period is only two years. I've emailed Varta UK but they have not replied.

Thermostat by Stephen
mk4 golf 1.6 SE 8v AEH engine Can anyone offer any advice or points to guides for changing the thermostat. I had been getting a temperature reading of 80, so I changed the coolant temp sensor first as its cheap cheerful and easy and q common failure. That did not cure it so next port of call is the thermostat I was told, but no idea where there is ? or how to change it ? Also mentioned was...

B5.5 Passat "Alternator workshop" warning by Simon Finnigan
Hi all, driving early this morning, after about 20 miles of driving I was on a flat road, at 40mph when the "Alternator workshop" warning came on the display, and the battery light came on. Cars a 2002 model, just under 170k miles on the clock. I`ve checked for error codes and can`t find any to clear, and was wondering what other options there may be for this warning? The car still starts...

Mk 4 Golf Avia wheels by nick
I've got 5 spoke 15" Avia alloy wheels on my Golf Mk 4. The other day I went to swap the wheels front to back and couldn't get one of the locking bolts undone. I tried so hard the adapter popped out. I'd managed to twist the splines inside the head of the bolt so the adapter would no longer fit. I got the local tyre service to use a bolt extractor to remove it, but I

mk4 golf 1.62 2001 I loaded up all my work stuff the night before, came this morning at the office I went to open my boot and it would not open even though the car was unlocked. I tried opening the key manually and nothing. The central locking key fob unlock part is pressed twice and nothing (which always opens it) I worked the key in and out of the lock and squieted some wd40 and nothing.

coolant loss by Peter smith
I was doing my 2 weekly checks under the bonet and topping up etc. I noticed my coolant is down to just above the minimum marker. 2 weeks ago it was just under the max marker. I'm guessing I have a leak somewhere ? Never had to fix anything like this before any ideas where to start. I did have a look around the hoses and couldn't see anything blarringly obvious. But I guess it the level is...
