Network hub. by
Mike G
Guvnor at work looking for a fast 10-12 port network hub is a bit confused
as far as specs go. So am I come to that. :-)
Can anyone recommend a fast one, or what to look for in the specs to see how
fast one is?
Price is less of a consideration than speed.
TIA.
Mike.

Any yanks present? by
Doki
Do they have the same attitude in the USA as other abroadians - ie, No, you
can't change anything? I assume not given the number of hot rods about. Does
stuff have an annual emissions test a la the MOT?

Anyone got a SOC for sale? by
Doki
Must be under £500, smaller than a Xsara / Mondeo etc. Preferably Diesel or
smallish petrol - at least capable of 35mpg but able to go on the motorway
fairly happily. Height adjustable driver's seat and adjustable steering
wheel a bonus. No Vauxhalls, no Fords...

Tomorrow is the big day. by
Elder
Going to pick up the Rangie.
No radio in it, so will be really pikey and have the V8 accompanied by
The Cramps, Devilish Presley, Zombina and the Skeltones, The CruxShadows
and Black tape for a Blue girl, plus whatever else I feel like copying
over to the phone.
4Gig memory cards are cool.

CD in the post, sent though internal mail at work (ahem) so I hope it
arrives...
I put a couple of Epoxies albums on there, since Zombina are supporting
them. And Necromantix 'Return of the Loving Dead' for added Psychobillyness

OTish: Becker VS Pioneer by
Doki
I'm after a head unit. It looks like it's going to be between a Becker
Mexico Pro or a Pioneer DEH-P77MP. The Pioneer has a higher quoted power
output (27W VS 17W IIRC, both DIN), but the Becker also looks far more
standard whereas the Pioneer is about as understated as aftermarket head
units not made by the likes of Becker get. Anyone heard both? I've always
liked the Pioneers I've had but...

Is Araldite ok for metal? by
Alex Coleman
On my rather old tube of 'regular' Araldite it says it is ok for metal.
If this is so then why would I ever use one of those 2-part adhesives
sold specially for metal? I mean the sort of thing that is usually
coloured grey and can often be bought in car accessory shops?
I need to glue an aluminium ring (about 1.5 inches diameter and about
4mm thick) to a plastic base. There will be some...

********. VAG strike again, twice in one day. by
Pete M
Ah, my beloved Mk2 GTi decided today was a good day to knacker not just one
but two piston rings.
Upon checking the compression these were the readings.
Dry.
No1 - 45 psi.
No2 - 30 psi dropping slowly to 0
No3 - 115 psi

OT: Mobile cooling off period by

Is there some sort of statutory cooling off period for mobile contracts? My
bird's just signed a contract in phones for ****ig you and given their
pressure sales tactics it's liable to be rather unsavoury.

[OT] POP3 email recommendations by
Abo
Now my Tiscali account has been cancelled I've lost my email address. I
don't want to use my ntl one because it was used in the past when I
signed up to stuff so it's full of spam...
Can anyone recommend a decent, free, pop3 email service? I signed up for
gmail but their pop service keeps timing out so it's pretty useless...
A decent amount of storage would be handy, but I don't need...

You may want to check out uk.rec.motorcycles ASAP, 'cos there's an XJ40

Has to be gone this weekend, though.
Somewhere in the Hertfordshire area, ISTR.

I just wish it was V8.
