Collecting the Samba convertible tomorrow by David Lane
Travelling to Tring from Wakefield early am - with exams that I've not finished marking :-( Hopefully it'll be OK - I'll give it a thorough check-over and then make the trip back, with a card from Mr RAC if needed as I've got relay service. David

Got the engine for the Golf :-) by Pete M
360 mile round trip to collect the bloody thing, but it's the AGG lump instead of the earlier 2E motor and I've been getting quotes of £250+ for an AGG from the local scrappys (and I get stuff cheap from them). Cost me £60 in the end for the engine + alternator (poly V belt instead of old separate belts) and £50 in fuel to go and get it. This week, I will mainly be fettling 8v Golf motors by...

Needless and gratuitous but hey... that's just me by Pete M
and my ebay spamming tactics. I doubt any of you lot are interested in this, but it'd be fun with a V8 or summat. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140105967360 -- Pete M - Using the Scouse Side of the Force -

OT: For Free (sort of) - Hammond Organ by AstraVanMan
A while back I tried palming off my Hammond Organ onto any of the regulars, and a few of you said you might possibly be interested. Basically I'd rather "long-term loan" it to someone for nowt, on the condition that hopefully in a couple of years when I've got a place with enough space for it, I can have it back, but if someone wants it for 50 quid then I'll just sell it. Here's some info...

One Samba returned home by David Lane
Did the drive of nearly 200 miles OK except for one issue. Overall impression; Nippy and bouncy. The condition was OK - not great and the re-spray seemed to be a basic one, probably using metallic celly. Bodywork OK but starting to rust at the edges - not what I'd expected but not bad. The seller was thinning down his collection of 45 cars, including a Stag, Austin Healey 3000 and others....

Note to self by SteveH
When working underneath an Alfa 75 with the engine running, remember that due to the transaxle gearbox design, there's a ****ing great propshaft running the length of the car turning at engine speed. That *could* have been *really* nasty. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - Hongdou GY200 - Alfa 75 TSpark Alfa 156...

Today's Run by SteveH
Took the 75, freshly shod with some quite funky Marangoni tyres up to the MOD training ground in the Epynt mountain. Surprisingly traffic-free run and I can report that, although the Marangonis aren't as grippy as P6000s, they're very forgiving, meaning I was a lot more confident in getting a boot full of power down coming out of the bends. Did around 120 miles all-in but came back with a...

Best idea for an insurance system by Elder
Got an online quote from Liverpool victoria, and for the 89 V8 rangie it only offered 3.0litres. They have one of those live help chat toys, so I messaged India for help. She said, persue the quote to the end, putting in any modifications you have (suspension mod and LPG). Then she would check. So, got a quote of £250 fully comp, and she comes back "Yes, I was right, it essentially covers...
