high power headlamps. by
Brian Su
Hello,
My car uses standard 55/60 watt H4 headlamps. Just now I purchased a
set of 110/120 watt ones and plugged them it, after turning them on
for 5 mins there was smell and smoke coming from around the lamp area,
could it be my wiring melting because it can't take the power or the
bulbs too hot and melting the reflector, connector?
should i change them back to the original or leave it as it...

Overheating Cosworths by
DervMan
Went to Ford Fair at the weekend . . . had the typical hour of waiting to
get into the grounds to the stands, again.
Quite cool this, from a certain perspective, because after half an hour, the
Cosworth brigade start looking worries as their numbers dwindle owing to
overheating . . . saw several Cosworths driving past at 20 mph with steam
billowing out of their bonnet vents.
I guess the Escort...

New tyres by
David
Hi,
Looking for recomendations for a tyre that works well in the wet as well as
dry roads. Currently got some Yokohama A005's which are great in the dry but
they don't seem to have any grip on wet roundabouts and the Nova seems to
aquaplane a lot.

Ford Ka Front Seats by
Stu Brown
Righto, I'm finding these to be a mite small, both on the backrest and
seat base, and slightly close to the front (i.e. not quite enough leg
room)
So - is there any way of:
- modifying so the seats can move a smidgen further back?

Glenn
has anybody seen that mk1 Capri in Evo magazine every now and then? The
bloke has gone all out and spent stupid money doing it properly...
Its black (looks like its had 1000's of coats of paint because its like a
mirror), full weld in cage. Massive V8. Coil-overs all round with fully
adjustable shocks.
Its just so nice....
Does anybody have any pictures though?

K&N 57i? by
Marty
I was thinking of getting one of those K&N 57i filter kits for my '92 DOHC
2.0i Ford Sierra. Are they any good? anyone else fitted one? Is there
much/any improvement or is it just hype like most of the bolt-on type
accessories?

Coil Overs by
DervMan
Okay, like, I'm writing an article for the FAKQ, and trying to find a decent
explanation, non-salesy, for coil over suspension. But getting fed up with
the usual car modifying sites' dearth of information . . . can anybody help?

Painting/finishing advise? by
skid00
I'd like to touch up a black Fiesta XR2i front bumper and body kit which
I've just bought. It's looking kind of dull and it seems like the lacquer
has worn off in places. Additionally the bumper might need a few dabs of
black paint in a patch where the original red paint is showing underneath.
my question is, what's the best sequence to carry this out in? I don't
really want/need to strip it...

Oil Cooler by
dojj
work out how much oil you will need to fill all the pipes and stuff up as
well
fill the filter with oil
pour some into the pipes
make sure you've got a thermostatically controlled take off plate
start the engine up
wait for the oil to et hot enough to open the thermo plate
switch off
check the oil level
it's trial and error but I filled mine up by 1 litre past the top line and

Thieving ****ehawks... by
JackH
DVLA, that is.
I've just received a form from them in the post, as the Calibra had 9 months
tax left on it when it disappeared.
Given the car was toasted to a crisp by whoever pinched it, it's fair to say
they've either kept the tax disc or more than likely, it went up in smoke
with the rest of it.
So... according to this form, I can claim back the remaining tax... but they

Newbie question: Any good resources on cars? by
Timberwolf
Hi everyone
I'm a newbie in the world of car modifications.
I'm especially interested in the following car
models: Nissan, Toyota, Honda and Lexus.
Can anyone recommend some good books or websites
about the topic?
Thanks in advance.

Oil Cooler by
Tim Fish
yep you have to fill the cooler up or all the oil in your sump will fill it
up and the oil pick up then wont find anything.
people that have thermostatically controlled oil coolers and don't fill them
up first might suddenly have the oil light come on. this is because the oil
has just got hot enough and has then let all the oil into the cooler.

Confession by
**-**
Please don't rip the **** too much but..
After Saturdays little get together I've re-acquired my taste in happy
hardcore/hard house. I know I know but Saturday did end up with DJ Sharky as
loud as 'he' goes on the Stereo.
I'm now off to buy a another smily face T-Shirt, some more glowsticks and a
whistle ;-)

A pox on... by
JackH
....the ****ing arseholes who saw fit to leave my Calibra which they stole on
the 9th, in some woods, torched to a cinder (according to the recovery
bloke).
Any info leading to someone whose face I can kick the **** out of for this,
gratefully received.
(Gah, this is the last time I buy anything Vauxhall that's mildly sporty)

Prudential - voided our insurance by
Tosh
We thought we would tell them about the alloys we had fitted plus the rear
spoiler I fitted myself and the buggers voided our insurance because I
fitted the spoiler myself.
Been with them 3 years, its not as though we are young either I am 44, wife
39.
They had given us 7 days to either remove the spoiler or find some other
insurance, well I know where they can go.

Engine done, but... by
Carl Gibbs
Well the engine in the 205 has now been changed. The bloke that sold the
engine to me told me it came from a 205 XS (ie straight swap). But now i've
got it in and finally got it going after 3 days of work it turns out that
what (i believe) he's done is taken a 106 SPi block and stuck an XS gearbox
and manifold on it. So now the car is gutless above 5500rpm. Slightly
p***ed off - you could say...
