It's going to rain by Bob Sherunckle
I got my aircon tested and recharged on thursday. It's never worked since I got the car. The bloke pressure tested it with nitrogen and dye, which it passed. He then vacuumed it down for 20 minutes to get rid of all the old oil and refrigerant plus any vapour that may have been in there. It held maximum vacuum for the whole 20 mins, which was nice. He then added 1000 grammes of R134A plus...

Which biggish 4x4? by Elder
I'm finding I'm needing to shift more **** and stuff around. Probably got a budget of £1k-1.5k max. The IS is OK for small stuff but because the seats don't fold the boot takes very little. I can get clean stuff on the back seat but because it is half leather with Alcantera even a plastic sheet over it risky for wet/dirty stuff. Thinking older Patrol diesel. Older Bighorn diesel Older Pajero...

Fun with old cars, part 274b by Pete M[_4_]
I picked up tools today, which was nice. Replaced a fuel pipe (another one) on the 4.2 SD1, and tightened its fan belt (again). Dearie me, it does go rather bloody well. Tomorrow the plan is to do a billion silly little jobs on the 3.5. Find the dodgy connection(s) on the fuel computer, free off one electric window motor - there's always one rear window with a problem isn't there?, fix the...

I seem to be becoming a bit of redneck. by Elder
In article , says... You may wish to try finding an 'evaluation' copy of Guitar Rig from native instruments. Very cool bit of software indeed. A 1/4" jack to USB connector is about 2 bob these days.

I seem to be becoming a bit of redneck. by Albert T Cone
John wrote: Hey guys, I'm 52 years old, completely tone deaf, can't read a note of music, have fingers as thick as cumberland sausages and can't hold a tune to save my life. However, things have happened over recent years to make me think that life's too short and sometimes, you just have to do what you want to do, so I've just bought my very first guitar (from Ebay - waiting for...

Looks like I might be needing a cheap diesel hack about sooner than I thought. by Elder
And as my main ride, not as a fun chop and hack about. Just got called into a meeting, first day back after a week on holiday. Got told that the company is cutting back, my job is one of those under risk of redundancy. One other guy in his probationary period already gone. The main client is doing more and more in house, so there are cut backs. As far as I know, I'm the only only one with...

From another group by Fraser Johnston[_2_]
"Owning an Italian car is like having a 17 year old girlfriend. For the three minutes each day when they're *not* annoying the ****ing bejesus out of you, they can be fun. The rest of the time they're a huge guts ache that aren't worth the hassle." I wish Steve H was still here. -- Fraser

New car to play with by Fraser Johnston[_2_]
Bought a 1998 Holden Jackaroo which is called a Trooper over there I think. 3.5 litre petrol top of the range model. Wanted a Toyota Prado but they are triple the price. Pretty happy with it. Now for the mods. I reckon first cab off the rank will be a drop down screen in the rear to keep the 3 kids from killing each other on long drives. Then suspension lift and some big mud...

Restored 1920 Dorris K-4 one of the very first RV's by Bob Larter[_2_]
Restored 1920 Dorris K-4 one of the very first RV's I found it in a barn in Montana. After 4 years and lots of work, my labor of love is 100% restored! The RV of my dreams reaches a top speed of 15 miles per hour, lacks front brakes, uses oil lamps for headlights and features a dashboard intended to deflect debris rather than display information. I included a picture below. Does anyone have any...

Ping :Mr Kemp by Mike P
Hey Tim, you're the Merc man around here. I need to get hold of a manual for the COMAND system on a 2009/2010 C-Class... Any ideas? I can find the pdf of the US version, but not the EU version cheers Mike P

Life update. by Douglas Payne
Quiet here, isn't it. I recently got a new job. I decided there wasn't a career for someone who's nearly 30 in smashing bags. I now work with ships instead of aeroplanes at the local Harbour, which is quite a busy port as these things go. I am a Ship's Agent. I have to visit each of my allocated ships twice a day. I could be asked to do just about anything on behalf of a ship,

Mini review. by Tim S Kemp
Mondeo: Big. Steers nice. Lots of space. Looks nice. Cheap interior. Diesel: Unrefined, especially at low revs. Auto: Just don't. Drove a manual one a few weeks ago (when merc was off road due to pothole damage) and it was fine as long as you kept it above 2000 rpm, or there was no go and risk of stalling. Now, with merc yet again off road due to pothole damage, I have another, but this has...

Now that's just irritating by Steve Firth
Given the mileage on the Ford, I've decided to rebuild the front brakes and bearings "just in case" I got most of the parts in the UK, two hubs, new brake disks, all new bolts and screws to replace the ones that mechanics have mashed over the years and from America new brake calipers. I decided on the calipers because on the old ones the pistons are looking in poor conditions and they're cheap...

The SD1 is full of surplus spares ready for tomorrow's SD1 club spares day at Rimmer Bros. Hope everyone has plenty money. But I'm not letting the missus get that new hat yet. -- *A calendar's days are numbered* Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound.
