Road trippage by
Doki
Firstly: Sorry for the americanism.
Now, onto the post proper. Next year I quite fancy going on a fairly long
camping holiday in the summer. I also fancy going around Europe. Preferably
in the Golf if I can convince it to be suitably reliable.
Anyway, the route I've just scribbled on Google maps goes here (Nottingham)
to Dover, on to France via some sort of tunnel or ferry, down to the south...

VAG Meet by
Abo
Hmm I went to my local Sainsbury's for a couple of bits and bobs and lo,
there was some sort of impromptu VAG meeting going on in the corner, so
I went and had a quick look.
Mostly VW's, there was a tidy Mk1 Golf and a nice big bumper Mk2. And a
decent looking white Scirocco. More Mk2's and Mk3's and a couple of Audi
A3's.
Shame I didn't have my camera (and my K800i was on charge at...

That'll be one RX7 gone then... by
Timo Geusch
.... and replaced with a nice sensible four-door shopping trolley.
Which means that the A8 is now definitely for sale.

OT: Cheapy SD headunit? by
Albert T Cone
Hi Chaps,
SWMBO has managed to break her ankle, which has put paid to our upcoming
trip to New Zealand . Anyway, as she isn't driving her car for the
forseeable, I have been tootling about in it, and have discovered a nice
little list of thing which need sorting out .
One of the things which needs sorting is the headunit - the one which is
in at the minute is frankly senile. I've thought...

1991 Pug 405 Mi16 4x4 :-) It's the early, 1.9 16v, alloy 160bhp engine'd
Mk1. Complete with 4x4 although aren't these some kinda transfer box setup
for the 4wd - as opposed to the centre LSD setup of the rare, and LHD only,
405 T16? So I guess what I'm really getting at is that it's probably not...

30-70 Times... by
jackhackettuk@yahoo.co.uk
Following on from the bickering in here the other day about how
flexible / inflexible the power delivery is on a TDI, I did a couple
of indicated 30-70 roll on accelerations tests yesterday.
Same stretch of road, but two cars.
Car one: VW Passat TDI Sport 130 B5.5 - mapped to a tested on the
rollers 173bhp with 273lb/ft of peak torque at around 2,250rpm.
Car two: Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTI SXI...

Engine fun by
Carl Gibbs
Decided to strip down the top end of the 106 engine todays. It's always had
a slight misfure and it's a bit smokey on startup so decided it was about
time I did something about it.
So after much messing about I wipped the head off today and started
stripping it down. Unfortunately due to the weather and lack of space in my
garage I had to take the head indoors to clean it up - so here's...

Nitrous haze.. by
PCPaul
(This is mainly aimed at Burgerman, but any other useful comments are
welcome, derision and cackling from the sidelines is something I've come
to expect ;-)
So I want to put Nitrous on My Mondeo. I've read Burgermans site
(www.nitrous.info) a few times and I think I've absorbed some of it.
What I'm after is: what I've got now (reliable, smooth, cheap to run, not
too thirsty 2.0 Mk.1 Mondeo)...

Trackday at Abbeville by
Timo Geusch
Blimey was it ****ing down - we extended the lunch break simply because
we would've needed an outboard motor to get around the circuit.
Other than that, cracking circuit for a slower car like my MX5, learned
plenty of stuff (it was more of a track school rather than a
trackday) including the important information that MX5s are crap
tools for tending the lawn. Obviously, that was shortly after...

Sold the Capri. On the lookout for its replacement now. Fancy something
RWD and old that I can shove a hoofing great V8 in and blast down a
drag strip.

Fuel from water. Scam or not? by
Mike G[_2_]
I belong to the school that believes if something sounds too good
to be true, it probably is.
After visiting a few websites of Co's selling information on how
one can make and fit the HHO system yourself, I'm still not
convinced, despite all the 'apparent' evidence that it does work.
One report claimed only 4oz of water was consumed on a 100 mile
trip in a car.

Anybody interested in an A8? by
Timo Geusch
As subject - I've got an offer pending for the RX7 that involves taking
another silly four-door car in p/x, in which case the A8 would be
surplus to requirements.
It's an N-plate A8 4.2 quattro, around 137k on the clock, Tax and MOT'd
until sometime next year, FSH - yes, up to now - with me having a
couple of smaller issues sorted out (weeping oil sensor and breather
line and stuff like that)...

Mini Review :- Skoda Felicia (X reg) by
Bob Sherunckle
**start of review**
It's all the car you actually need.
**End of review**
It's not any of the car you want right enough, but I was very surprised at
just how competent such a piece of junk could be.
This really was the bit where Skoda got it together enough to build a car
that stood a reasonable chance of making it from B back A.
