Volvo UK phoned me today to organise a test of an S80.
They've taken details about the issues in Cardiff, and got the dealer in Abergavenny to call me. Only they don't have an S80 demonstrator or one on the used forecourt. Phone Volvo back to see if they can find one for me. So far, they can't. How the hell do Volvo expect to actually sell any of their flagship model if no ****er can test one first? Sadly, it was the car I wanted to try above all others - they're neatly styled, come well equipped, the D5 engine and Geartronic box are supposedly very good and they have a really nice, almost minimalist interior with lots of leather, high quality plastics and real brushed aluminium trim. I'm beginning to think that Volvo don't actually want to sell cars in the UK. -- SteveH Via Hotel WiFi / HSDPA and Asus Eee 701 |

Haven't asked, as they book all this kind of crap through, and this is the words of the recorded message when you call their number back, 'a global outsourcing concern'. I'm going to email Volvo and see if I get a response. You have no idea how tempted I was to go and speak to them direct when I passed their office near the Imperial War Museum the other day. -- SteveH Via Hotel WiFi / HSDPA and Asus Eee 701 |

OK, I have an answer, found as I trawled their website. It appears they're giving 5 day 'VIP Test Drives' to fleet managers. So I've requested one. This could be interesting. -- SteveH Via Hotel WiFi / HSDPA and Asus Eee 701 |

'Hello... is that insert company name here fleet management? Yes? Ah good... yes, you see I'd like to order my new company car - not too keen on those in my current band, but I understand for about £70 a month more I can have an Audi A6, complete with soft touch cock holders and no worry about the cost of servicing / tyres etc for the next three years (or however long it is before this particular sinking ship hits the bottom of the UK economy ocean).' Easy, see... ten minutes of form filling or whatever it is they make you prostitute yourself to do in order to get something like this organised, and then that's it... no more dealing with unhelpful dealers, no more slaving over a calculator working out just how much those tyres will cost over a year if you pick the 17" option over the 19" option, no more getting quotes on ****e like insurance and no more prospect of you being lumbered with a big debt you don't need should the recession bite your employer that little bit too hard on the arse over the coming year or so. Y...K...I...M...S HTH... no really. :-P -- JackH |
