What kind've boost/power is standard? What's the boost at now, and what
will a remap give? These aren't accusing questions heh, I'm genuinely
interested :-)

Well. Its the TDi so its fly by wire with Bosch EDC and is supposed to be
125bhp but very lazy and progressive. Interestingly the t2 turbo is exactly
the same spec as on the saab 9000 2.0's...

Stock boost is 10psi, after 3 turns of the rod we're at 12psi peak, but it
is woefully short of fuel.Definately more grunty higher up, but the lack of
fuelling is holding it back low down.

A power box reputedly gives 150bhp and 70 more torques, and a remap abit
more. Neither affect boost as its mechanically controlled.

The remap is fixed, where as the power box is adjustable, which is what i am
favouring even though its abit more crude, as there could be wind of a
larger downpipe and possibly different spec turbo / intercooler setup in the
future.

I fancy doing a bit of that on the Xantia, seeing as how it's had a stay of
execution due to wifey's eyes..... but I've no idea how a boost gauge
attaches, or what sort of boost gauge to buy. Fuelling and wastegate I can
do ok. I have no idea about this diesel malarky.

If you are anything like the bloke I know with an STI WR1 a boost gauge like
an oil pressure gauge attaches by simply linking the lighting wires to the
switchable live on the radio. Job done.

Heh, I'd like to really know what boost it's putting out, as it seems flat
as a witches tit at the moment..

Find one of the thin boost pressure lines, such as that off of the brake
servo (although some people take it from other places) and put a T-piece in
it (available from Halfords as things for windscreen washer jets), then plug
the boost gauge into that, and route it inside and fit it somewhere - either
in a pod or otherwise as discreet or brazen as you like. I think the best
place is if you have an ashtray or something that has a flap covering it -
then you can just flick it open to reveal the boost gauge when you want, and
close it when you don't want :-)
