Default EBC Redstuff ceramics, any good?

I know EBC greens had a crap rep for delaminating.
But I loved the Akebono ceramics I put on the GT4, and they aren't
available for the Saab.

It doesn't need front pads yet, but at 1000 miles a month, every month,
and the ammount of dust the standard pads are kicking out, it will need
them eventually.

Might as well beef things up as they need replacing. Quite often it is
cheaper than dealer parts, and better quaility/fit than factors pattern
parts.
The other choice is Ferodo DS2500 pads, but they are a lot dustier.

My brother uses them on his 406 V6 Coupe, and some of the ClioV6.net guys
use them - they're the standard spec replacements for the Vee with the
Yellows been the upgrade pad. The Yellows are a lot dustier though of
course for no real gain unless you're tracking. I haven't heard any
complaints, and some people trackday with them an stuff as well, and the Vee
is a heavy car - most people suggest that the standard braking system is
well up to it though, so the Reds are fine. As you've now doubt read,
they're also very good dust wise. Although some of the hardcore trackers
use Carbon Lorraines and other more specialist pads. Carbon Lorraines can
have the other side effect of showers of sparks if you're braking hard
enough/they're hot enough heh - which is an impressive site to see. Poor
video here - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bGr4XO...eature=related

The Greens only got a bad rep because people were putting them on Scoobys
and stuff. I know you can buy them for a Scooby but they're only suitable
IMHO if you're not a spirited driver. Otherwise Greens shouldn't be used on
anything faster and heavier than a 106 GTi really - not on anything properly
fast or properly heavy and definately not on anything that is both!

I have Yellows on the 75. Work quite well and aren't too dusty.

Yeah, but the 75 isn't a daily driver is it.

I was amazed with the Akebono ceramics I fitted to the Celica.
With new grooved discs, the brakes were 200% better, didn't fade, didn't
need to warm up, didn't need to be bedded in, they just worked 100% from
the off.

Problem with Akebonos was, they weren't e-marked, so I had to get them
from a Jap parts specialist in the US, and front and back came to £40
including shipping, with all the shims and new anti-rattle springs.

For the rest of the world, Akebono ceramics are standard fit to the
sportier and heavier Toyota built cars (Lexus/TRD), but europe gets
inferior quality pads because the ceramics aren't approved because they
work more than 15% better than the standard fitting pad.

I had the Ferodos with standard size Brembo discs on my Volvo - massive
improvement over the OE fit on back lane blasts. Pads were dearer than OE
(but disks cheaper...)

I used to use Mintex road / race pads but on the daily driver they'd
squeal like **** when cold and coat the front wheels the first time you
warmed the ****ers up.

Nowadays I just throw the cheapest OEM spec pads in and don't brake as
much. The Rangie has "police spec" pads and they're brilliant. [1]

[1] which I think are standard Rangie ones :-p
