Could you handle that embarassment ;-) ? I mean, I know you don't like the VXR inside, but aside from Clarkson, who did that silly review, everyone reckons that they're actually really rather excellent. Evo had one as a long term tester, than even did track time. It never went wrong, and it kept up with some very exotic machinary cross country. Did it do so in a devastatingly effective manner? om... I can't see that 260bhp, stopping for fuel every 300 miles tops (at £80 a time) and getting new front tyres every 5k miles tops - assuming you don't power understeer into ditch first - is going to make you happy :-) Maybe not. But us on the other hand... ![]() ************************************************ Of course - but I bet you, like me, would take the Vectra for the superior handling and use of the power, over the comfier seats and softer suspension of the Saab. AFAIK you're not a badge snob either, although I'm not sure the Saab badge is really above the Vx in one in a lot of peoples minds anyway, certainly not like say, a Beemer or Merc would be. Then of course the Vectra would require the old stage 3, big FMIC, full Miltek inc pre-cat removal and sports cat (or is it cats?) and remap - rumoured to show 330bhp+ and similar amounts of lbs/ft. Although to be honest, I wouldn't bother with the FMIC, just the Miltek and remap for 320bhp(ish). That'd do hehe :-) Then maybe a possible uprating of the suspension would be required - although I wouldn't wanna lower it anymore as the VXR is pretty low anyway, and stuff with a 'too low' front bumper is too annoying for me now after the Vee. I dunno how good the standard brakes are, but I'd want the biggest ones I could fit under the 19s anyway, as nothing looks cooler than a massive set of brakes filling a big alloy hehe :-p It'd be black, with the newer part anthracitre, part shadow chrome upgrade optional wheels and rear tints... And a bit of a weapon by the sounds of it hehe! If it was me though, and I had to have something a bit bigger and smallish engined, I'd probably have a Megane R26, which as anyone that reads anything performance car related, ever, is an awesome thing to drive, with epic handling an a great engine. They're even reliable these days, since Abo's iffy one heh, now they're nearing the end of the production run and the new Megane is looming. And if you didn't need rear seats, and didn't mind polycarb rear windows... http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...égane/234049/# Now holds the production front drive record for lapping the ring. Faster than the Focus RS, which has 60bhp more... -- Dan Clio R27 F1 #65 |

Whereas I'd definitely take the Saab for the better seats, less brittle painted plastic, more comfy suspension and the auto box. We're all petrolheads, but I can guarantee that the average bloke in the street places Saab pretty much up there with the other prestige brands - and streets ahead of Vauxhall. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Ducati 750SS - Hongdou GY200 Alfa 75 TSpark - Alfa 156 TSpark - B6 Passat 2.0TDI SE |
