A friend of mine recently traded in her old Endura-E engined Ka for a
newer Duratec one. She says it's loads faster and doesn't use as much
fuel. Obviously, her version of loads faster, may not match ours :-)

Could be. The Duratec-8v is quieter, but whines a lot, whereas the
Endura-E is gutteral. They're barely quicker, standard against standard,
over Elvington's quarter mile strip. Chip the Endura-E, fit the lightest
wheels you can, and they were effectively the same (times were +/- 0.2s).

She says it feels loader faster, do not discount that possibly that the old
one was just knackered (it was a bit of a smokey, rattly little thing).

Ford fitted the non-air conditioned machine with tall gearing and the
Duratec-8v needs 500 rpm on the tacho for the same performance, so it
didn't feel anywhere near as immediate as the Endura-E. But the Luxury
model (with a/c) has the same gearing as the Endura-E and is very close in
fuel consumption.

Of course, the new engine wasn't her reason for changing, she's just
earning more now, and wanted a new one, so she bought a pretty new (think
56 plate or something), shiny black Luxury Ka. I think it's Luxury, the
model, it has leather, aircon, quite nice alloys, leccy windows and
stuff, and had done something like 5k miles. She's over the moon with
it.

It's a lovely specification; Kermy was a Luxury. It'll also have
QuickClear and may have the in-dash multichanger as I recall.

Aye she seems happy with it, not sure about the changer but it has the
screen thing I beleive.

"DanB" gurgled happily, sounding much like
they were saying:

It's only £140. It's not exactly THAT much - especially viewed against
this amount of hassle.

But Carl's made no secret of the fact funds aren't exactly growing out
of his pockets at the moment, so it seems stupid to waste £140.

It seems a damn sight more stupid to **** all the neighbours off with a
car alarm that goes off every ten minutes.

Either don't bother with an alarm, or have one that works. One that cries
wolf constantly is just pointless. If you're in an area where you need an
alarm, then it's probably also the kind of area somebody will express
their dissatisfaction with a brick.

Thinking this way.
I'm not scraping the barrel, but I would be if I threw away £140
everytime something I just paid for didn't work as expected.

You're not just throwing it away, though, are you?

How much time, effort, energy and petrol have you wasted on taking it
back and forth to the useless muppets who can't fix it? How much more
will you waste on it?

Incidentally, the temperature gauge decided it didn't want to work on
the Passat last night - definitely enough coolant in it, the heater
was running hot and it was driving as well as ever, so yet again it's
going to have to go back to the dealers this week with suspected body
computer issues.

I didn't touch it...

Seriously, it was working fine on the way over and completely dead on
the way back.

They all do that, sir

Yesterday morning it was working as per normal and that nice man at
the dealers seems to think a temperature sensor supplied and fitted by
them will sort it out when it goes in for its six month service next
week.

That'll be modern electronics for you.

but it's probably telling you that you really want a
nice A8.

LOL... we shall see. I still think you're better off binning all the
Jap tat you never use and keep that and the MX5 until it's time to
head off the sunnier climes.

Well, there are plans afoot to get rid of the "Jap tat" but I'd probably
end up with a slightly improved "VW Beetle"...

BTW, the deal with that M3 fell through as the bloke had someone turn up
with the cash. Probably better that way.

Smelt really funny to me from what you said... as you say, better that
way.

I wasn't too offended that the guy had sold it. Actually I wasn't too
surprised that he clammed up after I had sent him a copy of the HPI
report...

Oh, and one of the fans is a tad noisy as you said but I don't think
it's too bad. Now that I've managed to liberate a second SATA cable from
PC Woe I've started the installation...

Ultimately, that's what counts, innit. And the LuxuryKa has that lovely
leather interior too...
