My 405 takes a lot of provoking, especially on the 205 tyres to get it

to
slide anywhere, sideways takes deliberate and excessive intent.

pass me the keys....

Oh its possible, i've done it, its just you certainly can't do it without
trying...

Only cos it's underpowered.
With both of mine, if you barreled round on corner on full power (all weight
to the back) and lifted off the accelerator, the back came round (all weight
to the front).

For me, the brilliance of the Ka / Fiesta / Puma chassis isn't how much

grip
it has, but how it is very easy to control when you're gooning. The PSA
Group's chassis' may have more grip, but they snap into oversteer rather
than drift, at least from the factory.

What's the difference ?

How progressive the break-away is?

Controlled oversteer = Drift

Actually, technically it's not.

Drift is a neutral slide, in which all wheels have the same amount of (or
lack of) traction.

I'd call that a four-wheel drift. You can do a two-wheel drift in a RWD car,
for example

Tim, you're sick :-)

Done anymore videos yet?

heh - no, and to be honest I've not managed to shake the back end of the new
zafira, not driven it enough - but the old one was drift city!

Volvo S40 understeers so heavy you need handbrake assistance. New MINI is
the front drive car if you like a "lively" (or downright dangerous) chassis.

Tim, you're sick :-)

Got a Spacewagon very sidways on the roundabout at the top of J32a on the M1
on the way to Donington Park once. That's seven up.

I watched the video of Tiff Needel driving the Ford Puma

around
a
wet
track
again today. He got the car massively sideways (I'd say

about
the
same
as
he
got the RWD M5). Any ideas on how he managed it? P'raps I

need
to
get
someone to watch me make the car go sideways to tell me how
sideways I
am...
Or maybe I need to practice a lot. On an empty runway. :P

Tiff favours a bit of handbrake to loosen the back end and

high
corner
entry
speed to keep it there.

RWD is much more biddable and controllable IMHO.

I noticed when I had about 5 minutes of driving a Caterham on

grass...
I
doubt I'll be getting a Caterham soon though.

Build a locost - you know you want to..........go on go on go on

go
on.............

Build a westy Megabussa.

Or a Locost CBR1000 - 90% of the fun for 20% of the cost. A locost

chassis
is a direct 100% rip-off of a live axle westfield chassis. Mine is an

IRS
chassis.

If I build a Locost, can I be a cheeky git and nick the plans for an IRS

cha
ssis?

The locost community is big enough now that the mailing lists and the net
are littered with alternative plans. I actually have a spare set of rear
wishbones which could easily be adapted onto a live axle chassis. Hub
carriers are a piece of the proverbial.

Im planning on building a locost, seen the catalalogue and i reckon im gonna
get the 2b kit as my starter pack.
got a 3.5 rover v8 lined up as well, (might go in a mk2 escort or a manta
tho)

plenty of places. i found sainsburys and large roundabouts some of the best.

theres a 3lane roundabout in coventry, thats wicked for practice. if you
flump it, you can abandon the sideways idea and go more or less straight
over it. but if you got the bottle for sideways action, then it's perfect.

Where exactly could I practice becoming sideways? I imagine they don't

take
kindly to it on trackdays, and the nearest car park isn't exactly the
brightest idea in the world.

Nice big empty round-abouts are my favourite :-)

Pah, easy peasy. Either the lift off mid corner, brake mid corner and yank
the change-direction-handle. Please dont try it unless you know how to
react to it, or you're in an empty car park!

See my website for photographic evidence

Usually lift throttle sharpish at high RPM shifting weight forwards
and then the back will step out if well comitted into bend. It'll go
all the way round if you don't balance throttle and steering right.

Great fun, but not to be tried on road!

or in a 205 GTi.....
