BMW 520d Touring: review by robrichards
BMW want $82,300 for their entry-level 5 Series sedan, the 520d with its very good four cylinder turbo diesel. Says it all for the obscenely inflated prices Australians pay for prestige cars that this seems almost acceptable. The Touring (that's wagon to us) is $92,800. Uh, sorry? _________________________________________________ Calgary Real Estate

Skoda repair by Simon Finnigan
Hi all, The wife bumped her Skoda Octavia recently, and we had to get it repaired by the insurance company (it caused quite a lot of damage the plastic elements etc). The accident involved her hitting something head on (yes, I know......). The bumper, frame underneath, bonnet, grill and both light clusters where replaced, but the light clusters seem out of line to how I remember them. I've not...

Audi A1 mini review by fishman
Fun, nippy, a feel-good car. Not that fuel efficient and way too expensive, considering how good the Polo on which it's based is.

Honda Insight VTi mini review by Mike P
On Thu, 15 Sep 2011 16:25:15 -0700, fishman dribbled: Dreadfuk rattly, plasticy interior. Slow and not that economical, engine sounds like a 1980s Fiesta with a blowing exhaust. Handling utter ****e but steering responsive and with surprisingly good feedback despite being far too light. Split rear windscreen causes visibility problem. Dashboard that encourages hyper-miling fun and a...

BMW 520d Touring mini-review by fishman
Good at everything, so competent it's almost boring. Relaxing to drive, love the head-up display. Magnificent 2.0 engine, though very diesel-sounding, has all the power you need while remaining almost unfeasibly economical.

OT I'm being priced off the road... by DervMan
In the true spirit of this newsgroup, I'm being priced off the road. So it feels. Thing is, I can't justify spending so much on insurance when I take the bus to work and as much as I enjoy the Saab, it's not special enough. I take the bus to work, I maybe drive once a week because it's there, mostly I don't need to... I'm thinking, shed time or City Car subscription. -- The DervMan

Mini Road Test :- Pug 207 1.4 HDi by Bob Sherunckle
Before I picked this one up, one of the lads said, "do you know these pool cars are restricted to 62mph" ? There and then, my challenge there and then was of course to make it go faster than that, somehow. Until I sat down in it and switched on the ignition. There in the middle of the dash, the in car readout goaded me with the following declaration.

While the shed isn't in the best of nick, it hasn't broken down, but if it did, I would have a much better chance at the roadside of getting it going again. Even the fuel injection is totally mechanical and can be fixed with spanners/screwdrivers, while the modern bits of the modern ...
