The numbers on Fiats, I thought they were the horsepower, is this correct? So how come they do a 1.9 diesel in a 75 and a 105?

I notice from the DVLA site that it says the insurance and MOT are checked electronically using the Motor Insurance and MOT Test Certificate Databases. My question is, is sny more information required apart from the owners details and the Reg No of the vehicle. Such as the insurance and MOT certificate numbers?
