About 4 weeks ago I swapped my camper van for a car.
Had a phone call today saying the camper van was a ringer.
He was having some work done on it and the mechanic noticed weld around
the VIN plate on the side door well and that the VIN plate in the engine
area was pop riveted on.

Good online journey planner? by
Mungo \Two Sheds\ Toadfoot
If a chap was to consider planning a complete tour of England, Wales &
Scotland around the coastline, finishing where he started, would there be an
online resource which would enable him to calculate, reasonably accurately,
distances, times, which would also come up with good places to visit along
the way, sort of thingy?

8 grand - what would _you_ buy? by
Marlon
Hi all,
took my '93 BMW 530i lump for a service yesterday, to find out too
many bits are dropping off & it's now beyond economical repair (quoted
around £1200 to put it all right on a car that would be worth c £600
when right - I inspected the issues, and agree that they're BIG issues).
So..... this being the rainy day I've clearly been saving for I
now have a budget of £8k for a...

Most comfy? by
Mungo \Two Sheds\ Toadfoot
Out of the millions of cheap secondhand cars available, say for less than
£1000, which have the best, comfiest, pothole absorbing suspension? Here in
East Kent the roads are akin to those in Afghanistan.
Actually, as you can buy a Lexus LS400 for less than £1000 now, we'll factor
in decent economy and low tax too, so sub-1400cc (is it 1400cc still?).
There's a challenge.

landrover defender 110.. or? by
loopy livernose
Since reading something here (or on a sister newsgroup) I have been
considering/contemplating the purchase of a 2000 (or earlier) landrover
defender, and I like the look and versatility of the long wheelbase 110
version with side windows, (maybe an 11 or 12 seater). I was thinking of
kitting it out with a small camper stove and fridge set up, to accompany my
liking for camping. it does...

The audi channel by
Krustov
Was having a look through the channels on (sky freesat) and seen the
audi channel is available on channel 884 .
FYI: sky freesat is much the same as a freeview box as its a one off
payment with no monthly subscription .
Would audi nutters pay the £150 just to get the audi channel ? .

Is this true? by
goodolpete
From the Daily Torygraph.....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2008/06/14/mfcheaperdriving114.xml
Drive like Dan Dare. Treat your car like a spaceship. As soon as you
can, accelerate smoothly and gently up to a safe, appropriate (and
legal) speed and select as high a gear as possible, keeping the revs
down to minimise fuel use without labouring the engine. Between...

Car Insurers and recommended repairers by
paulfoel
I've had loads of hassle off my current insurer (swiftcover) because
they want me to use their recommended repairer for repairs to my car.
Basically, the nearest recommended repairer was 40+ miles away (in
fact, in a different country!!!) so I told them to get stuffed and
found a local one.
Since then they've tried all sorts to get me to change my mind.
They've been deliberately obstructive in...

Not a car driver anymore by
Krustov
As everything can easily be delivered via the internet these days i dont
really have a use for a car anymore .
I have given up car ownership .
Sure when i was younger i used to drive for pleasure and stuff and often
drove up north to wave hi to nessie when i drove past loch ness etc .
But the fact is that (for me) driving was no longer a pleasure activity
because of the cost of keeping a...

Road Tax imported car by
golflady17
We have an X registered (2000) BMW 525i. It spent its early life in Cyprus.
The registration Document states it was first registered in Jan 2001 and
first registered in UK in April 2005.
The DVLA are taking the 2005 date for road tax purposes so we are going to
get hammered . Do we have a good argument to insist the 2001 registration
date is the one they should take. Have had brief conversation...

Greenest car (cradle to grave) by
Tim Downie[_2_]
I got to thinking about reducing my carbon footprint the other day. Not
seriously, just a "what if" exercise. I started by podering what difference
it would make if I changed my car less frequently or bought older vehicles
and ran them for longer. I don't think however that this would make any
difference to the planet (although it might save me money).
Of course I can buy a more...

Van hire co. falsely claiming I returned van with damage by
jgkgolf@hotmail.com
I hired a transit van last Saturday to collect a fireplace I'd bought.
Having given my credit card details we examined the van for dents etc
and these were marked on a sheet with a diagram of the van. There was
quite a few small marks or dents, nothing major. I felt a bit wary so
was quite careful to double-check everything was marked before I
signed the sheet.
I took the van and returned it 6...

Car Insurance by
db
Last year I told my insurance company that I only did about 13000 miles a
year, as it happens I actually did about 14000. When I renew I suppose I
should tell them that I will now be doing about 14000 a year. Does any body
have a clue how much more it is likely to cost me? My renewal notice is for
£200.
Many thanks
