Peugeot 206 - 54 by
Bill[_8_]
I've noticed a Peugeot 206 (2004) that looks good value.
I know there have been problems with these cutting out. Does anyone
know what years this affects?
Any 206 owners out there like them?!
Thanks,
Ed.

What car for my student son? by
GB
Son has to drive 20 miles every day to college. He's 21 but has only held
his licence one year (and has 3 points already!) Any suggestions for
something reasonably safe, reliable, and fairly cheap to insure? To put this
in context, it would cost him at least £5k a year to stay in the halls of
residence, so living at home and having a car is looking like the cheaper
option.

Car insurance excess when not claiming for own car. by
Gio
Hi, can I ask the group for some advice? My sons girlfriend -insured fully
comp- has just reversed into a car on a car park. The other car owner is
going to make an insurance claim but the girlfriend in not considering going
through insurance to get her own car repaired. The question my son has
asked is 'will his girlfriend have to pay her policy excess or is an excess

Trailer ownership by
Adrian
I'm fairly certain the answer is no, but it's best to be on the safe
side...
There's nothing I need to do to "register" a trailer I've just bought, is
there?
What's the score on insurance - when on the road, the towing car will
usually cover, won't it? I doubt the house insurance will cover it for
nickage, but tbh I'm not that bothered. It wasn't exactly expensive.

It is a requirement of the O licence. You have to maintain full
maintenance records down to a bulb. You have to have the vehicle
serviced at a named garage and the records available for inspection.
The maintenance records follow the lorry so if its...

'The Garage' Quest TV. by

Anyone watching it?
According to the presenter and mechanics sorting the problem of a 2 year old
Mitsubishi Jeep engine with shot big-end shells due to running out of oil,
(not checked or topped up since new apperently) shells are used to protect
the crankshaft in the case of an oil starvation problem??

Warranty Direct advert on TV by
Mike P[_10_]
Is it just coincidence that they use a Rover 75 as the car in their advert
for extended warranties, warning you that "cars that are now out of
warranty could cost you a fortune if they break down?".

Aftermarket LED Day Running Lights by
Stephen Leak
If these are fitted 500mm or less from the road surface, do they
become "fog lights" under the Construction & Use regulations and
Vehicle Lighting regulations, and therefore should only be used in
"seriously reduced visibility", less than 100m, fog & falling snow,
etc.?

Zafira B timed interval wipe by
Peter Twydell[_2_]
Is it possible to add timed interval wiping to a Zafira B if it doesn't
already have it? It's an option, and mine (second hand, 1.9 SRi) doesn't
seem to have it.
If so, is it mechanical or a software mod? Probably the latter.
The manual says to push the stalk down, wait until the desired interval
is reached, then move the stalk back to the timed interval wipe position
(- -). There's no...

Noise From Rear - Possible Fuel Tank by
jimsss
Passat 2004 130 TDi: quite a racket coming from what sounds like the
fuel tank area. I'll have to get under it at the weekend and
investigate, but it sounds like the rear o/s area. If I boot it, it
goes away for a second or two and comes back. Car runs and drives
fine, no fuel issues.
Could this be the lift pump about to die?

These new silver multi-use fuel cans by
Stephen Leak
I have noticed that the plastic spare plastic fuel cans are now only
available in silver, with a panel on the label, where you tick a box
to indicate what fuel is inside.
They used to be colour-coded, red for leaded petrol, green for
unleaded petrol and black for diesel oil. I appreciate the
manufacturers' reasons for the change (times are hard, economies of
scale, etc.) but could this lead to...

Diesel Smoke by
Gio
I just wondered if anyone else had noticed that diesel cars seem to be
producing more smoke than they used to? When they reduced the sulphur
content and produced the 'city diesel' mixes years ago there was a big
reduction in smoke but of late it seems to be getting worse.

Some opinions invited - Doblo/Berlingo/Partner by
R D S[_2_]
Looking at replacing our Multipla with either of the above.
The Berlingo and the partner are very similar but the Citroen is a bit more
like a car inside, though I believe Peugeot build a better vehicle?
As for the Doblo, I am sick of spending £100s on suspension for our
Multipla, are they better in this respect?
Also has anyone any experience of the 1.3 multijet diesel?

Bumper scuff repair by

Just looked at a car and it was almost mint apart from a scuff on a black
plastic bumper. It wasn't mega deep, maybe 1-2mm but over quite an area.
Has anyone had such repaired? If so what were the results like and how much
did it cost?

Vauxhall Ampera - would you consider one? by

Basically an electric car with a small low powered petrol engine to keep the
battery charged if you exceed the 40 mile range.
This sounds like a far more sensible drive train than the sort you find in a

speed, smoothing out the energy demands over your...
