OT: Tanker strike by Doki
I can't get my head round this to be honest. Unite apparently reckon the driver's haven't had a pay rise for 10 years. I simply cannot believe that - if it is the case, why have Unite not complained for the last 10 years? Or do they actually mean they've not had an above inflation pay rise for 10 years? OTOH I should have trained as a ****ing tanker driver instead of going to uni...

Should people like tanker drivers ..... by Krustov
...... have the right to cause havoc in the uk - anytime they want . - hairdressers can go on strike - sewing machinists can go on strike - etc etc Lots of people from various types of jobs can go on strike without it causing havoc , but should people like petrol tanker drivers actually be allowed to go on strike ? .

Greedy tanker drivers at Stanlow. by john m
It seems SHELL at Stanlow is being picketed by a group of greedy tanker drivers. £32,000 for a 45 hour week is a great wage for a fairly unskilled driving job. The HGV licence is nothing special. Why have Cheshire Police not moved them along using Anti-Terrorist Laws? They did this to fuel protestors a few weeks ago, closed the roads off and threatened to arrest people if they did not...

Best tax exempt car by Tim Downie[_2_]
If one wanted to avoid VED what would be you fantasy pre-73 vehicle (assuming a reasonably decent example existed)? I was rather hoping that Porsche were galvanising pre-73 but alas, that seems to be the year they started it. :-( Of course I could always go for a new car but that would be boring. ;-) Tim

Vectra Diesel Fuel Economy by Al Henderson
Morning All, I bought a Vectra Diesel 2.0CDI Estate last September and have just recently started paying attention to the fuel economy I'm getting. I used to have a Megane which had a computer which told me the MPG, Vectra doesn't so I have to work it out myself :-( On my last fill up, I put 51 litres in it, having done 475 miles since the last pit stop, I make this 41.5 MPG, which seems...

Lane discipline...... it could save your life by Paul Giverin
The missus and me had spent a nice day in Paris and we were driving home from the Eurostar terminal last night. It was quite late (11pm ish) and the traffic was quite light as we drove round the M25/M11/A11 up to Norfolk. I'm still amazed at the number of people who sit in the middle or outside lane of almost empty roads. It winds me up when you have to move from the inside lane to outside...

E-code head lamps in Euro Toyota Camrys? by DaveC
In the USA version of 1987-1991 Toyota Camry we got the standard non-upgradeable headlight reflectors (in a proprietary shape) with 9007 bulbs. I'd like to upgrade the bulbs, but the glass in the standard reflector is so poorly ground that installing brighter bulbs results in simply blinding oncoming traffic. And the contacts for the bulb are so tiny that the increased current of a brighter...

DVLA prize draw FFS! by Willy Eckerslyke
I just made an online SORN declaration and this came up: "Your SORN declaration has been successful and you have now been automatically entered into a FREE Prize Draw for one of 3 brand-new Seat Ibiza". WTF? If they really have that much money to waste, I'd sooner have a few quid off VED, thank you very much. (Although I may change my mind if I win.)

Anyone else being bugged today by text messages from Scottish Audi dealers? I've received four messages today from different dealers about accident repairs and inviting me to save an 0845 number. Fecking annoying. Tim

ANPR by Mike G[_2_]
Just being curious again. What triggers an ANPR flagging? Unlicenced or stolen car No plates, and Uninsured cars are the obvious ones, but what about MOT's. I know they are on the database, but is not having an MOT alone enough to trigger an automatic ANPR response? Just wondering because I haven't seen any cars flagged for not having a valid MOT on any TV progs. Mike.

Car drivers should be forced to buy a motorbike by Krustov
For 6 months a year - most people going to work and back should be forced to use a motorcycle . If you look at all the cars in the morning and tea time rush hours then at least 90% of the 5 seater cars only contain one person . So , Not only would the amount of fuel saved be massive , The rush hours wouldnt be rush hours any more as 4 motorbikes would only take up the same amount of space...

Car/commercial vehicle insurance for a Ltd company by Fred[_2_]
I have recently purchased a pickup for the company. Who offers insurance for company vehicles. I'm aware of the likes of Direct Line etc, but they seem to cater for private insurance. I'm also aware I can go to my local broker but from experience they don't normally give the best rates. Would be grateful for help.
