car quiz - automation by
Krustov
Had a think about automating the car quiz 'guess the answer' tonight .
First thought was a hangman type of game , But even if you get it wrong
there could be enough of the make and model in the partial words for you
to figure it out from your wrong letter guesses .
Second thought was a box where you could type in the make and model
manually - but not everybody has good spelling skills and...

what are they worth? by
Jan
Hiya
Hope I am posting to the right group here . . if not can someone tell me
which one . .
I have a set of alloys to sell for my son in law who was given them in part
settlement for a debt but we dont know how much they are actually worth
They are TWS 'Kosei' 17" Alloys - which I think are S5R and are fitted with
Avon ZZ1 tubeless tyres which are as new. So far I have found out that the...

Sudden overheating? by
David Wright
Hi all - could anyone suggest reasons why a car might suddenly appear to be
overheating?
This is a 1996 petrol Fiesta 1.25 with the Zetec engine - never in 4 years
I've owned it has the temperature needle gone beyond half-way, suddenly it
seems to be going right over into the red.
How quickly should/could it get this hot - from cold this morning (not used
for 12 hours previously) it went...

headlights continent/UK switching by
Simon Gardner
I am currently looking for a new Estate car. I've looked at a Passat, a
couple of Volvos and the Citro‘n C5 Estate in the last few days.
My bottom line is that I want a good solution to the problem of getting
full power headlights when driving both in the UK and on the continent.
Often changing over twice in one day on a fairly regular basis.
It appears that Peugeot Estates used to have a...

Why does anyone bother travelling by train? by

Ball & socket to hold mirror? by
Alex Coleman
I want to mount a mirror on the side of my desktop PC so I can see
through the window to my side without moving my head.
A car overtaking mirror seems ideal and I want to mount it such that it
can swivel and be adjusted. A ball and socket would be nice but I don't
see many of these available.
(A spiral wound metal arm has too much "spring" and springs back a
distance to where it was moved...

Citroen C5 3.0? by
Paul Welsh
Anyone any experience of Citroen C5, particularly the 3 litre model?
They seem to shed value like nothing on earth - about 3.5k for a 2001
model with under 20k miles for example. Thirsty, sure, but are these
something to avoid like the plague?

Anyone got a good deal on an Astra VXR? by
alfi286
Just checking whether I could have got cheaper really but I have bought
an Astra VXR (on the road £19250) + Arden blue (£350) + 19" wheels
(£500) + tank of gas (£50) for £17995 from a main Vauxhall dealer.
Took a weekend of playing dealers off against each other but has anyone
managed to beat them down more?

There's interesting, or how Ebay history can be useful by
Mungo \two sheds\ Toadfoot
I *was* watching a rather nice looking Mercedes 300TE with full service
history until I looked at the seller's previous recent purchases - a genuine
(new, unused) Toyota service record book, a Jaguar service record book, and
a special order rubber stamp for...£33.50!
I hear alarm bells.

MB 190E by
Mungo \two sheds\ Toadfoot
Anyone got/had one? Any good are they?
I find myself lusting after one for two reasons: lovely shiny ones are to be
had for under a grand and they're only 1.8l or 2.0l so feck all for me to
insure. Three reasons...build quality is supposed to be much better than
lots of MB's since.
I've heard the 1.8's a bit sluggish so I'm thinking that the 2.0l would be
better, not only for the extra go...
