DVLA problem by
Chris
Between applying to transfer of a cherished number and getting the OK
I sold the donor car to the local car breaker as I needed the space.
The DVLA wanted to inspect the vehicle so I rang the breaker, who
informed me that the car had gone in the pot.
I rang the DVLA who informed me I would loose the registration.
What do I do ? I tried the AA but they have got rid of their legal

how effective is vehicle sound-proofing? by
Rob Campbell
Hi,
I've been looking into buying an old London Cab (a Fairway) and took one
out for a test drive. So it has a 2.7L diesel engine and sounds not
unlike a Landrover. As expected, it was a little on the noisy
side--largely noise from the engine.
I've found some places on the net who sell "sound-proofing" solutions
aimed at older Land Rovers, motor homes, or Taxis. Now I'm a little
skeptical...

Anyone Using A Third Party Tom Tom In-Car Charger? by
Tricky Dicky
The quality of the device supplied by Tom Tom is not great. Someone posted
here a while back that they were getting a third party charger off eBay.
There was no report back on how they got on.
Anyone having better luck with a third party device?

water gurgling??? by
Him Off De Telly
gotta Pug 106, S Reg with 1.1 engine. When I start her up there is a
gurgling sound - can go on for quite a while when engine running. No warning
lights come on. Temp seems o.k. too.Garage renewed the water/anti-freeze.
Not sure if there is an airlock in the system or maybe in the heater system.
Should I just blast eh heater on hot for a while and see if that clears it.

54 plate Punto - CAN-BUS wiring? by
Dr Zoidberg
Don't suppose anyone knows off the top of my head if a 54 plate Punto will
have CAN-BUS wiring (specifically I'm thinking of changing the stereo in
one)
Thanks

Anything to worry about?
As you can see its not THAT dee - but I suppose it depends on how thick the
tyre is!

Trade-in or private sale? by
Alan
Isn't the phrase 'private car dealer' a contradiction in terms?
Either they are a private person selling a car (in which case they
won't do part-exchange) or they are a trader/dealer who is operating as
a business.
You obviously mean the latter and there is no definite answer.
A proper trader/dealer will be OK with part-exchange because he can
always sell your car on at trade value if he does...

Those cars designed for the North American or German market tend to be big
inside, so try the Nissan 350Z, any Porsche, the Vauxhall Monaro, the BMW

Insurance claim or not?? by
Fred
Cross-posted to uk.legal
My wife has protected no claims bonus and this also covers "own fault"
claims. This is more of a legal question really. The stupid woman has just
come home from work and told me that she's had a bump in a car park - no
other people or cars involved, just one of the fence posts.
Seems that someone had parked too close to her and she couldn't get in her
car at the...

drink driving course by
hugmeloads
My daughter has just completed a drink driving course. (She had a drink spiked) She lost her license for a year and had a fine. No points were put on her license.
We are wanting to insure her car, a friend of mine said insurance need not be an enormous amount as some companies do waiver this if a course is taken.
Does anyone no of any insurance companies who do this and any suggestions....

Trade-in or private sale? by
Adrian
Ed Chilada ) gurgled happily, sounding much like they
were saying :
In a very general sense, would a private car dealer prefer that I just
wanted to buy their car rather than trade something in? I could
probably sell mine easily enough privately, but I want to know whether
I'd be better off doing that and then approaching the dealer with the
cash?
I'd say it...
