You better check again - the Cleveland was a 351, not a 451. The only stock ford engines over 400 were 427, 428, and 460 inchers. No 460 'stangs. It depends on what you count as a "Ford" engine and "stock" engines. Mercury/Edsel/Lincolns (MEL) engines came in 383/410/430/462 ci displacements Big Block Ford/Edsel (FE) engines came in 332/352/361/390/406/410/427/428 ci displacements Big Block Ford Truck (FT) engines came in 360/391 ci displacements (the FT was just a toughened FE - the 391 had the same bore and stroke as the FE 390) Big Block SD Truck Engines came in 401/477/534 ci displacements Big Block 385 series engines came in 370/429/460/514 ci displacements There are other older Lincoln engines, tractor engines, diesel engines, V-10 and V-12 engines that also came in over 400 ci versions. There is an interesting list of Ford engines at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_engines .. I wondered about that 514 cid V8. The 514 cid 385 series V8 is not really a stock engine...it is a crate engine you can buy from Ford. I was not familar with the SD Truck engines, but there is a wikipedia article on that at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Super_Duty_engine .. The 462 cid Lincoln engine was last used in 1968, but it was a "stock" engine. Ed |
