No, it's a **** idea and totally unfair on the motorist. It will never
affect me anyway, but it's unfair.

Why does it matter for PARKING? The ****ing car isn't moving, so it produces
the same pollution as an electric car or bicycle when parked. This to me
looks like the council taking the **** in a big way.

Yebbut it will pollute more on its way to and from its parking space surely?

to be followed by all parking spaces in the city to be made one uniform size
that's too small for big cars, or something like that.

Thats just silly .

What would be a good idea is to have most streets allocated to cars that
have a 1300cc (or less) engine .

For its only fair that drivers who care about the enviroment and what
sort of carbon footprint they leave should be rewarded .

(cars over 1300c should be towed away - unless its a mobility car)

Gas guzzlers should only be allowed to park on the outskirts .

Really? So considering it is allegedly being done for environmental
reasons, it's far better to have a car with a large engine trawling
round looking for parking because you've basically banned them from
most of it? How does that reduce emissions?

How is it going to work, on VED bands? In that case I might as well run
a 1960's Dodge Charger with a 7L V8 in as its VED band would mean I got
the cheaper parking permit.

What a load of unadulterated bollox.

Not as much as it will end up doing wandering round and round trying to
find a space under this scheme.

No that wouldn't happen, if you read the article, it's the cost of permits.

"Owners of "gas-guzzlers" would see the cost of their permit rise by £160 in
the city centre and by £80 in peripheral zones.

Edinburgh City Council currently charges a flat rate of £160 for a centre
permit and £80 for other zones.

Under the shake-up the less polluting cars would see charges fall to £30 in
the centre and £15 in outer zones. "

Still a hugely stupid scheme. Dodge chargers it is. Doesn't apply to
imports either does it? They get banded based on the pre-2001 thing? If
that is the case, Mustang GT500s it is :-p

Yes it should, for every city and town in Scotland.

We English will continue to run our country our way.
