Still a hugely stupid scheme. Dodge chargers it is. Doesn't apply to imports either does it? They get banded based on the pre-2001 thing? If that is the case, Mustang GT500s it is :-p LWB Lincoln Town Car - 235bhp from a 4.6 V8 and 5.62m long, 1.99m wide. |

Thats just silly . What would be a good idea is to have most streets allocated to cars that have a 1300cc (or less) engine . OK. but think how the authorities are going to implement such a plan and the additional record keeping, checking needed. How about banning Gaz Gusslers from Edinburgh (to be rolled out nationally, you hope) altogether? The Council could patrol the streets looking for such things and tow them away for crushing. To the applause of most right thinking people. You could say that someone who can afford to buy a Gas Guzzler (tm) can well afford to replace it at a whim. |

... In article , DanB says... "Conor" wrote in message ... In article , Chris Whelan says... Yebbut it will pollute more on its way to and from its parking space surely? Not as much as it will end up doing wandering round and round trying to find a space under this scheme. No that wouldn't happen, if you read the article, it's the cost of permits. The thing is that like in Bridlington and Scarboro for example, there are permit free areas to park and it's these they'd be looking for. Unless I've completely missed the point of the permit. I was just assuming residents permits or something, as realistically, you'd have to buy one unless you wanna park miles away from your house heh. Still a hugely stupid scheme. Dodge chargers it is. Doesn't apply to imports either does it? They get banded based on the pre-2001 thing? If that is the case, Mustang GT500s it is :-p Certainly is the case. I'd do it just to stick two fingers up to them. Naturally. Of course I have a disabled badge so I'd have no costing permit anyway :-) -- Dan Clio R27 F1 #65 |

To the applause of most right thinking people. You could say that someone who can afford to buy a Gas Guzzler (tm) can well afford to replace it at a whim. Except somewhat laughably a "gas guzzler" appears to be now defined (by whose definition exactly?) as anything with an engine larger than 1300cc. Whereas mere days ago such a definition applied only to 4x4s and anything with an engine larger than c. 2.5 - 3 litres (and even then I'd be struggling to cite a reference). "To the applause of most right thinking people"? Really? "Most"? (why not ALL). Still, it's gonna be dead easy to get a family of 4 and 2 dogs from one end of the country to the other in a SMART, which surely with its 700cc engine would be what "most right thinking people" would have us all drive (I jest - of course "most right thinking people" presumably assume that the Prius is the only sensible choice.....) In my recently deceased 3litre V8 BMW 5 I got more mpg than my wife gets in her 1300cc Corolla for pretty much the same journey - the reason being that for my work I travel outside of the "rush hour", whereas she has to travel during the "rush hour" (for various reasons too tedious to go into). But then again, you have to remember this thread was started by "Krustov". 'nuff said. Marlon |

In article ,
says... Gas guzzlers should only be allowed to park on the outskirts . Gas guzzlers are some of the cleanest cars. Elder gurgled happily, sounding much
like they were saying: Yebbut it will pollute more on its way to and from its parking space surely? Depends, a classic American V8 land yacht driven 3-5 weeks a year to shows, and parked on a permit probably pollutes far less than a new petrol supermini driven every day in the city and never getting properly warmed up. No "probably" about it. |
