Not as much as it will end up doing wandering round and round trying to find a space under this scheme. No that wouldn't happen, if you read the article, it's the cost of permits. The thing is that like in Bridlington and Scarboro for example, there are permit free areas to park and it's these they'd be looking for. Unless I've completely missed the point of the permit. Still a hugely stupid scheme. Dodge chargers it is. Doesn't apply to imports either does it? They get banded based on the pre-2001 thing? If that is the case, Mustang GT500s it is :-p Certainly is the case. I'd do it just to stick two fingers up to them. -- Conor I only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Even for a large 4x4 this parking permit increase is equivalent to 600 miles of fuel (conservatively) that's a lot of extra driving round to find a free parking space before buying a permit becomes financially worth while. So it looks like another knee jerk reaction from people who haven't thought it through. |

In much of Edinburgh, to park anywhere near your house, and to avoid paying £silly every day to do so you buy a residents permit for £160 or so. I think this is what the scheme is about. It's quite common for Edinbuggers to keep a car in a residents bay but walk/cycle/bus to work. This scheme is almost certainly aimed at irritating them as if you can park anywhere near your work, you wouldn't need a residents permit to park at your house out of hours probably. (c: Parking wardens are privateised and are very beady eyed in Edinburgh. Still a hugely stupid scheme. Dodge chargers it is. Doesn't apply to imports either does it? My guess is that the council would be allowed to band cars into groups however they liked, although I guess road tax bands would be easier to administer. I'd just drive my Dodge Charger round and round the city centre all day to avoid having to park it. -- Douglas |

Thats just silly . What would be a good idea is to have most streets allocated to cars that have a 1300cc (or less) engine . For its only fair that drivers who care about the enviroment and what sort of carbon footprint they leave should be rewarded . (cars over 1300c should be towed away - unless its a mobility car) RX-8s it is, then. -- SteveH 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Ducati 750SS - Hongdou GY200 Alfa 75 TSpark - Alfa 156 TSpark - B6 Passat 2.0TDI SE |

Good idea, the money they save would be far better spent on flying to foreign destinations on holiday, much better for the environment. Or cigarettes, they're pretty expensive these days and hardly cost the taxpayer anything. (cars over 1300c should be towed away - unless its a mobility car) Nah, most of them should be towed away too. Why should mobility car users get to have bigger engines? Gas guzzlers should only be allowed to park on the outskirts . Heh, presumably all the drivers could get on those nice environmentally friendly buses to get into the city centre. -- Douglas |
