I never drove a 106 back to back with the 205, only the 206; I'm sorry to
say that after the 205, the 206 felt far too "mature" but also not
entirely as forgiving as its refinement might have you believe.

Unfortunately I've never driven a 206, but opinions seems to be that the
106 was the last of the proper Pug hot hatches.

Aye that was pretty true. The 206 was a lot more refined and comfy. My
XSi, obviously the one I have the most experience of, had the same
suspension set up as the original 206 GTi, the 138bhp one. It was forgiving
enough for me, on occasion, to take the **** is huge ways heh, ways which
would of seen me in A&E in a 205 without a doubt (unless they couldn't
scrape enough of me up to take me to A&E...The GTi 180 was a big
improvement, still not the true spirit of the 205, but closer, and way, way,
way better than the 207 'GTi'.

The way they have the cheek to have these adverts saying "GTI'm back"
suggesting that Pug had replaced the 205, and the 206, hell in 138 or 180
incarnation, was inferior, disgusts me. The 207 GTi is not a hot hatch. It
would make a brilliant commuting tool, as driven gently it's economical, but
has a good bit of mid ranged grunt for overtaking (especially under
overboost) and it's also very, very comfortable, safe and well equipped.

The only gripe with the 180 was the slightly jiggly ride caused by the big
wheels on rough surfaces, and also that the tyres were very wide, and it had
almost too much grip so if it did let go - it would be at a high speed...
Which doesn't usually lead to a good result heh. Having said that, the ride
in the 205 GTi with the 15" Speedlines on is hardly subtle is it, heh.

On the subject of Peugeots, my mum just told me a story, as she was at
Howden show today, helping some friends run their stand for the Wold Top
Brewery (where my dad works, they were family friends long before the
brewery though). She also took Abby with her, my 14 month old Golden
Retreiver (although she's very, very light and not very golden at all) with
her, as she did last year and Abby won a rosette in the little 'dog show'
that was there. Also Abby loves these things, as she's outside all day and
gets fussed by hundreds of people and meets lots of othern dogs. Anyway mum
was walking her round after they'd set up the stand, just having a look at
what was there. There was a Peugeot stand there, with a few of their new
cars on display and when they were walking past Abby pulled on the lead for
mum to stop, which she did. Abby then stood there for at least 20 seconds
apparently, just staring at the new cars, then she prompted squatted, and
did a huge poop on the floor :-) Which mum of course picked up like any
good dog owner heh. Show's what Abby thought of the new Pug line up anyway,
she never pooped in front of my 206, and never even objected to getting into
it!

Do I sound like I either care or am bothered?

Well you should really, you're hardly painting yourself in glory. It's
annoying more than anything else, see up there we were having a decent
discussion about 205s and stuff, a subject that certainly interests me, and
you just managed to ruin it all by tainting it with your own prejudices and
little hate campaign - making it look like you were only there cos you'd
forseen how you could work in a SteveH dig.
