Just changed my 1997 (R-reg) Nissan QX 3.0 SEL Auto for a Nissan Maxima QX
(52-plate) 3.0 SE+ Auto and my insurance has gone up over a hundred squids. Circumstances forced me to accept it so that I'd be covered to drive it home but now that I've had the time to ring and question it, they reckon that the old one was a Group 14 and the new one is a Group 27 and that's the reason for the increase. Anyone know how I can confirm this 'cos I think they may have got it wrong, or at least let's say that I don't trust them and want to check for myself. Google just throws up gazillions of car insurance places such as Direct Line or Swintons etc., etc., or adverts and all things to do with Nissan. TIA, John |

It's a group 27 according to my books. 14 on old scale Old one is a 27 as well, but a 13 on the old scale. -- Pete M - OMF#9 BMW 325i SE Touring Range Rover V8 Turbo "Wait! For a moment I thought the OP surely had the Insurance group wrong. On the old scale a group 27 (if it existed) would probably cover the Batmobile! -- Peter X-Files fan |

After reading Pete M's post, it seems clear that the b*****ds thought, "how can we get more money out of them" and decided to create 50 groups instead of the 20 that used to exist. John |

Insurance groups are often relatively little to do with the premium - the IG is based on the cost of repairing that particular car, not how much damage it does to other cars, or how often the owners tend to crash them, which are things also factored into the premium by insurers. Certainly for TPFT it's pretty much an irrelevancy, and a lot of low group cars end up with high premiums due to often being used as a first car for the little darlings. |

There has always been more than one scale, I deal with one company that only has the 5 groups. |
