"For example: John Smith" wrote in message ... There's a thing called inflation ... and that's definitely not a good thing - 'cos higher inflation means higher interest rates means economic recession means a hard time for most. I think you're confusing cause and effect here - inflation doesn't cause high interest rates, Never suggested it does - you just read too much (causality) into my statement. It's the measure historically used by the BOE to counter it. raising interest rates is the mechanism that the Bank of England uses to try to suppress rising inflation. If inflation is caused mainly by imported goods for which the demand is reasonably inelastic then interest rates are a woefully inadequate measure. What's more likely to cause economic recession is when inflation pushes up wage demands, which means that companies have to (a) push up the price of their goods (which causes more inflation) and (b) make economies (which means more people losing jobs). A slow economy + inflation + unemployment = stagflation. |

"Krustov" wrote in message m... As local corner shops cant sell things as cheap as the big supermarkets can - then as fuel costs increase - then the less you will save by driving to the supermarket and back unless your doing a big weekly shopping or whatever . So , If you just need a 6-12 items , Then it could actually be cheaper walking to a local corner shop to get what you want even if the items in the local corner shop have a higher price tag . Would you agree or disagree with that ? . And if you do agree with it - then that must mean that the price of petrol going up every week can only be a good thing - doesnt it . Ah, but my supermarket is nearer than the "local" shop. Hmmm. Danes House? Or Somewhere off yorkshire st? That ****s your theory doesn't it? Mike P |

Woe betied them though if, as in my area, we the residents groups were to
declare war on them, and then got our crack PCSO's involved. LOL! "Crack PCSOs". Round this way, when the rain came, the local "Crack PCSOs" asked a local farmer to tow a couple of cars out of a flooded road, to which he kindly obliged. Then, when asked the question "well, are you going to close the road now then?", they mentioned that they didn't have the appropriate signs (nor the means to get hold of them, it would appear) and told him that he wasn't being very public-spirited by refusing to tow any more cars out of the flooded road that they couldn't be arsed to close. -- "For want of the price of tea and a slice, the old man died." |

"Krustov" wrote in message And yes - these petrol tokens could only be used at the supermarket petrol station . Like the ones Tesco give out :-) It's a ****er that they only accept them at full stores though, not the tesco express stations. I used to get one every week, but would have had to drive to Amersham from Wycombe to use it - not worth the time or fuel to get there as it would only save me £3.00 on a full tank That's because Tesco Express stations are just Tesco shops at a (rebadged) Esso forecourt, and therefore the fuel isn't actually supplied by Tesco, but is Esso fuel, Esso pumps etc. D |
