Do the oil additives stop oil leaks ?

not the ones that thicken the oil. but the one that are
supposed to
'swell' the seals ?

if so , any ideas on a 'good' one ?

No - its all ****. Causes more problems than it cures.

I used the Wynne's gearbox one for a small leak from the change lever on
the auto box of my SD1 over 10 years ago, and it has never leaked since.
In that case it did work, so I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand.
Mike.

I used Forte seal conditioner years ago on an 8V smoky as **** astra GTE. It
stopped it smoking long enough for me to trade it in..

Sure it was from the selector? There's not actually any rubber seal on
most of the GM 180 transmissions I've seen. Although one is included with
an overhaul kit.

IIRC the leak was from the shaft of a small lever coming out of
the r/h side of the gearbox. Looked like a major job to fix
properly, so I took the chance and it worked.
TBH I've never really needed to look over the g/b, so I'm not
very familiar with what does what. :-)

Depends if you're planning on selling the car within the next few weeks
or not.

Stop Smoke and one of the cans of leak reducing stuff got me a good
price on my MkIV Escort a few years back.... (that, and the nice thick
layer of underseal on the sills)

My mate once swapped a very smoky Mini Traveller with a dealer for a
Mini 1000; we just drove it round near the dealer's place until it used
up the oil and stopped smoking and then drove onto the forecourt...

Memo to self...

Never buy a car from SteveH.

Never buy non Italian stuff from me.

I look after my Italian cars, I don't give a toss about any other banger
I may pick up to run about in.

Poor Passat!
