Renault Scenic Broken cam belt by
Rob[_15_]
Renault Scenic 2003 2.0 VVT engine
Whats the most likely damage when the cam belt breaks. Is it
economically repairable?
And a cost for repairing such?
Or is this a sell for scrap job?
Thanks

Ridding an engine of Mayonnaise by
Wingedcat
Hi,
I'm doing a head gasket job on a K-series. Now, I've done this before
on my own car, also a K-series, and the cross-contamination was such
that oil leaked into the coolant, with the oil itself being as clean
as a whistle. In this case I simply flushed out the coolant system
until clean (although having said this the contamination was never
that bad).
I have just lifted the dipstick on this...

No screen wash jets, no intermittent wipe by
[email protected][_2_]
01 Micra
The intermittent wipe has stopped working. And the screen wash jets
don't work.
Other wiper functions work OK:
* Push up for manual wipe -- works OK
* Click down once for intermittent wipe -- nothing happens
* Click down twice for constant wipe -- works OK
* Twist for rear wiper -- works OK
* Pull for screen wash -- nothing

vauxhall corse bonnet latch by
Fred[_7_]
Hi,
My sister has a V-reg (IIRC) Corsa and she doesn't have a garage.
She's had ten inches of snow so she decided to cover the car with a
blanket. I've seen people cover their windscreens to stop them
freezing but she lifted the bonnet to cover the engine. I've never
heard of that; is it recommended?
Anyway, she put the blanket over the engine, closed the bonnet and now
cannot open the bonnet...

Citroen C2 - battery light flashing?? by
asahartz
My daughter's 04 plate C2 has the battery light flashing. Handbook says
"take it to a Citroen dealer" - but of course she's 100 miles away and
they're all shut until Monday!
My professional mechanic friend (ex-AA) has looked at the car, fitted a
new alternator, but it's still doing it - and it's intermittent. He
doesn't know what's causing it now.
Anyone any experience of this?

Screen wash tank leaking by
Rockingrabbit
Just noticed screenwash dripping down from under my Mk2 1999 Mondeo.
It did freeze up a few days ago as didn't have much screen wash in it
but managed to get a few pints of neat screen wash in and washers
worked after driving for a while.
Now looks like the tank has cracked as its dripping out slowly. I
didn't think there was a risk of a plastic tank splitting if it froze
up. Anyone else had...

Which car for the snow? by
John L
Hello all
We have two cars: a Toyota Corolla (i.e. average hatchback), and a
Suzuki Alto (i.e. a titchy car, which has wheels almost like pram
wheels).
Which, do you reckon, would be the better one for braving the
snow-and-ice-laden roads?
Cheers

2001 Transit strange behaviour by
Grimly Curmudgeon
Tonight I unlocked the Tranny using the fob, as usual. Opened the
passenger door, which was a bit frozen up and noticed the winkers give a
flash.
Came to lock it back up again and the winkers gave a single flash on the
first press, but no flash on the second double-lock press.
For the past seven years, the pattern has been:-
No flash on the first locking press
A double flash on the double-lock...

Mondeo Washer Tubing Freezing by
Usenet Nutter
Tried my Mondeo washers the other day after filling up the bottle but
very little came out the jets ...I then realised it was probably same
thing as what had happened a couple of years ago so looking at the
front bumper confirmed this ...fluid spewing on to the road ...the
tubing had popped off the pump . Not a clever design point having it
placed where it is behind the bumper/headlight area...

Suzuki Swift Cambelt by
Kirky
My 2000(X) 1.0/3cyl suzuki swift, I beleive, has never had the cambelt
replaced on it. Its now done 63k miles.
Is this type of engine the "Interference" type or will a cambelt
breakage be just a case of replacing the cambelt?
also when I do replace the cambelt should the waterpump/tensioners be
replaced?
Many Thanks

Volkswagen Dipstick moan by
JohnW
Does anyone else have the same problem as me reading VW dipsticks? I
have a Touran on which the dipstick is black plastic, and reading the
level is almost impossible, no matter how carefully it is cleaned. I
mentioned this to a friend with a Golf, and he then launched into a
tirade upon VW dipsticks. Having had no problem reading dipsticks
since the 60s, has anyone developed a new knack for...

Astra fog lights by
Fred[_7_]
Hi,
I watched SWMBO drive off into the fog the other day and I noticed
that only one fog light was working.
The handbook is pretty useless; it doesn't appear to list what bulbs
the car uses, or have I missed that page? Fortunately Haynes told me
that it was a standard 21w bulb.
I removed the light cluster and thought it strange that the bulb

ford heated windscreens by
Fred[_7_]
Hi,
In this weather I miss the heated windscreen I had on my last Ford. I
never understand why Ford won't license these to other manufacturers
because I doubt very few people buy Fords just for the windscreen!
Did Ford fit these windscreen to any other cars, such as Jaguars or
Land Rovers during the time they owned those and if so, did that stop
once they were sold on to Tata motors?

Won't turn over after flat/faulty battery, on turning the key to second
position there's sounds of life, an actuator/electric motor sound but
trying to start I don't hear the solenoid click, there's a faint
'singing' or whistling sound from under the bonnet as well.
Battery has been replaced but step dad had disconnected the old battery
