Vauxhall Omega idle control valve by
TMC
Hi all
Son has bought an Omega and the tickover is uneven at times and sometimes
stalls. Research says idle control valve a common problem.
Where is the valve located and what does it look like?
Is the valve fixable or is a replacement the answer?
Any idea of cost

changing a sum gasket by
Ed
hi
i have a leaking sump gasket (peugeot 1.9D engine)
...and was wondering how easy it would be to change myself ..is it a case of
just unbolting the sump and sticking the new gasket in? or will there be
hidden surprises!!

K series cutting out at junctions - possible cause (I hope!) by
Andrew Ratcliffe
Hi all,
A while back I posted regarding 1997 Rover 200 1.6
Basically when I come of the throttle and dipped the clutch to stop at
junctions etc instead of nicely returning to idle speed the engine either:
a) dropped way down to 200ish RPM and made a juddery recovery to normal
tickover
b) just died!

Expensive Alfas? by
cousins1
Until made redundant a couple of years ago I had a company car so tended to
get out of touch with running costs. We did at the same time have an Alfa 33
for my wife for about 10 years that was very reliable. I spent about £100 on
bits each MoT time and that was it.
In view of this we stuck with Alfas when I had to buy my own, but costs now
seem sky high to me. Example today, thermostat for GTV -...

Strange tyre wear by
Pete Smith
Hi all.
My trusty steed had its 3rd MOT today, and failed on a rear tyre being
worn.
It's an odd pattern, and I've never seen anything like it. I'm used to
seeing tyres with the centre worn out, or an entire shoulder, but this had
a very narrow band, probably 15mm around 3/8 of the distance from the
centre, along the outside edge. The rest of the tyre is fine, probably
around 3mm, same on...

Cavalier 1.6l running on by

Have a look on the back of the carb for a small vacuum pipe, about
three inches long and 1/4 inch dia. they often split and cause the
engine to run on.
the pipe normally splits right at the end, where it fits onto the
stub, just a case of cutting the pipe at the split and pushing...

National Tyres oil change by
Pete Smith
Hi all.
National Tyres are still doing their 10 quid for Duckhams + Filter and 15
quid for Duckhams QXR Semi-synth + Filter.
Is this oil any good? My car's always been serviced using the Motorcraft
5-30 semi synth plus Ford filter.
They say they'll use the correct spec, but I've found that not all petrol
is equal, so what about oil? Seeing as I'm doing short runs now, I'll

The crack exists at time of inspection, the bush has started to break up,

a failure in progress.

vibrating car... by
David Speir
Just fitted new shocks all round and new strut top mounts on the front so
it's definitely not that (It was doing this before and after the new shocks
went on)! I can only think that it must be the engine mounts allowing the
engine to move about under the bonnet and cause the vibrations....?

not everyone wants to read all the original post just to get to the new

Most people do however want to read a comment before a reply, it tends to

Wheel balance update by
Paul Giverin
After the tyre dealer balanced my front wheels four times and re-seated
the tyres on the rims, I was still getting a lot of vibration through
the steering wheel.
I took the car to my Ford dealer where I've previously had successful
balancing carried out and paid them to do it on their machine. The car
is now great so obviously there is something wrong with the original
garage's equipment. I...

Zafira Diesel - Oil Consumption by
www.ttdown.com
Hi
I'm thinking about buying a new 2.0DTI Zafifa in September but looking
around the net, there seems to be an issue about oil consumption.
Apologies if this has been covered before in the group but does anyone
know if this has been rectified by Vauxhall as I have seen some
unoffical posting that suggest it was rectified in Sept 2002 ?
There is also some news around that Vauxhall are launcing...

any comments appreciated.
The Corrado was the last "real" VW, in my opinion. I've driven a few
more modern VWs (including a few so called GTis) and have been seriously
unimpressed.
