Car Repairs by Vernon[_2_]
I took our car to the garage to get a clutch problem sorted, turned out to need a new master cylinder. But the next day the garage have called me to say they now cannot get the car to start and the management light is on, they said it was giving a canbus error, they have called today to say it needs two new injectors. I am not very happy about this, they had driven the car to diagnose the...

Cars left in longterm carpark by cryptogram
Given that modern cars run their batteries down when left for several weeks at an airport, has anyone any good tips for avoiding the pitfalls such as run down battery, loss of memorised data (ECU, windows, etc), having to jump start?

DSG oddity by Tim Downie[_3_]
Having decided to hang on to my car as it was going so well it now seems to be falling apart around my ears. :-( First it was the brakes (see master cyclinder thread) and now it's the gearbox. It's an '06 reg 2.0 SE diesel VW Touran and over the past week the gearbox has started to get "sticky", by which I mean that sometimes it won't change up when it's supposed to.

Has anyone here tried one of these? Do you get amateurish freeware? Ripped-off commercial stuff? Or genuinely good software?

Replacing wheel nuts by john east[_2_]
Have decided to take off the 'anti-theft security' nuts on the wheels of a 2002 Corolla. Are there any breakers in North London where I might be likely to pick up the Toyota replacement nuts? Thanks.

Focus groan by Joseph[_3_]
When cold and pulling off in 1st gear there is a groan literally a groan noise at pulling away speed from the drivers side wheel area. At least thats where is sounds like its coming from. Once the car is hot and been running for 10 odd minutes the noise goes away. It only happens in 1st gear only pulling away or using first at all. Any ideas what it could be ? Warranty equity by Tim[_11_]
Are the any instances of a manufacture matching a warranty in the US here in the UK? A tad galling to find that VW usa have extended the warranty on DSG gearboxes to 10 years on models from 2006 onwards. Tim

Unable to remove wheel by GB
I just saw two blokes, who had jacked up a Nissan Micra, removed all the wheel nuts, but couldn't get the wheel off. Front wheel. Ah, the handbrake, maybe, but I suggested that and they took the brake off (but foot on the foot brake instead). Looked like a disk brake at the front. Still couldn't get the wheel off. So, hmmmm? -- Register as an organ donor with the NHS online. It takes 1...

it will be probably question to Mr Cheerful (as he repairs cars); when honda civic is Ageing? What kind of problems are likely to affect ageing civic, and how old civic supposed to be to show signs of... ageing? No silicone injections (or only when necessary) no botox (at all). new brake pads noisy by john east[_2_]
Recently I had some new brake pads put on the front of a 2002 Corolla. A couple of hundred miles later, when braking fairly gently we get a noise like a high pitched ship fog horn. When braking more firmly there is no noise. But in stop/start traffic it can get on everyones nerves. Is there something I can do to remedy it please?

Do any new cars make 'overs'? by Nick[_8_]
Perhaps a bit OT, please excuse me. I've been thinking about this in my dotage. In 1972 I ordered a new Range-Rover. The cost was exactly £1700 and that included 12 months tax and a full tank of fuel. Took delivery from the factory in Dec 72 (with a guided tour and lunch) and drove it home. 22 gallon fuel tank and cost a fiver to fill. Blimey that was expensive motoring. I saw that...

Oxygene sensor behaviour during rich and lean run by powerampfreak
Hi all. I need to focus on the operation of the oxygene sensor, and I don't mean the wideband sensors. I wonder if it's possible to see a tendancy of an engine begin to run lean by monitoring the oxygene sensor output? Even if the engine runs in closed loop and the sensor output walks up and down according to the fuel regulation, would I see the times when the output signal is low (lean) increase...

Honda Civic not starting properly when cold by ARWadsworth
It's a 1.6 N reg Civic that has always started first time. I now need to floor the accelerator to get it started in the morning. Without the throttle the engine turns but does not fire. Once it has started it runs fine and will restart without a problem until it has been stood for 12 hours. Any ideas as to what is wrong? --

MK4 golf 1.6 PAS fluid change by Jimbean
I checked my fluid levels on my power steering and they was a little low as I wiped the dip stick and the fluid was a bit brownish considering the fluid goes in a "mineral green" I guess it needs a reknewing. The steering is a litle heavy I have read changing it can help with that ? So I guess its past it sell by date and in need of changing. How do I go about emptying the pas fluid ? I was...
