Loose air duct on Fiesta 1.3 endura - what parts should I buy? by LateBadger
My 1998 Fiesta (1.3 Endura petrol engine) has been producing more engine noise than usual at some engine speeds. I've had a look under the bonnet, and there seems to be an air duct (I think) that runs from the air filter enclosure to a smaller kind of filter assembly directly above the radiator. The air duct is flapping around loosely, because the foam washer that fits between the duct and the...

Bleeding the cooling system on a 1.25Zetc by Tony Brett
Hi, All in the title really. I've just replaced the top hose and all _seems_ OK but I can't help wondering if there is something I should do to make sure all the air is out of the cooling system. The heater works, and the radiator fan kicks in at the appropriate time and the temperature gauge reads about right. Should I do anything else? It's a 1997 Engine, code DHA.

Power brake increasing boost by Alf[_3_]
Hi all! we have a 1996 low milage Daewoo Espero in really good shape as a second vehicle. The brakes have good shoes and disk pads, disks and drums in good condition, no leaks, no frozen wheel cylinders. Compared to other vehicles more pedal pressure is needed to get a similar amount of braking. Apart from needing a little more pressure the brakes work fine and pull you up in a straight line....

Toyota Yaris clock setting by Paul Giverin
Went to adjust the clock on my wife's Mk2 Yaris this morning but without much success. The display unit has a digital clock on top and a multifunction display below and one button referred to in the handbook as the "DISP" button. The handbook says to set the ignition to "on" and press the DISP button to make the hours flash on the clock. All this does is cycle through the multifunction...

Dodgy rear window element - quick fix? by Krycek
One of the "lines" of the heated rear window element is defective. Is there an easy fix, or do I just need to live with it? 2002 VW Golf.

Renault Megane 1.4 with an unusual overheating problem by pp
Hi I have a 1998 Renault Megane 1.4 with an unusual overheating problem. It boiled over ecently during 1st and 2nd gear work on the Hardknott Pass in the Lake District. It's just been to the garage as the electric fan wasn't kicking in, and had a new radiator thermocouple switch, thermostat and refilled with antifreeze and the system bled. The problem now is that from cold or when the engine...

Cleaning EGR Valve... by Tom Burton
Hi Vauxhall Combo 1.6 Petrol/LPG. The old EGR problem again, R.E. my old posting, I've had the new exhaust fitted and the MIL light is back on following resetting. Reading the codes by pressing brake & Throttle and putting the ignition on indicates 0400 which is one of many codes for the dreaded EGR faults. Symptoms indicate that the EGR is doing weird things too, so, before i

Mazda MX-3 by grape
I'm thinking of buying one of these, anyone had any experience of them? Going to see one today, 1994, 120,000 miles, 1.8 engine. I've heard the 1.8 is good for 200,000 miles.

VIC, repair on not? by T i m
Hi All, I'm not sure if I've already asked this in this form so sorry if I have. Mrs recently mildly pranged our 93 1.4i GLS Belmont, Class C write off, paid us £273 and we retained the vehicle (tried getting the figure raised but they weren't interested and we couldn't find solid examples of higher valued vehicles of the same spec at the time (depressed market etc)).

Peugeot 807 unreliable alarm by Graham Brooker
The alarm on my Peugeot 807 is unreliable as it sounds for no apparent reason. There is a button on the side of the dashboard inside the driver's door that you press to disable the internal ultrasonic sensors, especially when there is a dog in the car. This does not appear to work properly as the dog then triggers the alarm as before. The main dealer says they cannot disable the alarm and...

OT: Selling a car - advice wanted by AndyRP
I am selling my 56 plate Avensis Colour Collection 1.8 petrol and wanted to know what the best way to sell it is. I am considering using Autotrader (website and magazine) but are there any other good forums to sell the car? The car is in very good condition, FTSH and has 24K miles on the clock - I would be looking to get somewhere around the book price given the mileage and good condition....

Alloy wheels / steel wheels by Cicero
Maybe very routine, but..... Is it generally possible to do a straight swap from alloy to steel wheels? Or specifically, is it possible to do a straight swap from alloys to steel on a Peugeot 306? Would such a swap count as a 'modification' for insurance purposes? Cic. --

Water pump belt Astra Mk3 by Gareth Magennis[_2_]
Hi, a year or so ago the water pump etc belt tensioner bearings went kaput on my Astra Mk3. Lots of squealing and funny burny rubbery smells. I bought a new tensioner and belt, fitted the tensioner, but realised you can't change the belt without removing an engine mounting. I still have the original belt on, which still squeals a bit constantly, but has been doing so without increasing...

Blower fan on Mondeo MkII only works on 1 and 4 by Tunku[_2_]
Anyone come across this problem? Could it be a resistor problem? Fan works at full tilt, and seems to work at lowest setting. position 2 and 3 seems to be bolloxed though. -- The above post may contain traces of irony
