testing resistance on pencil coil with multimeter? by John[_28_]
Does anyone know how I can test resistance on a pencil coil with a multimeter to find out if my ignition coil is caput or not? I'm not totally sure what I need to do to test primary and secondary resistance. For primary it should be 0.54 ± 0.02 ohms and... for secondary it should be 9.0 to 12.5 kohms On my multimeter I am setting it at 200 Ω but I can only get a reading

winter tyres by Fred[_7_]
Hi, Is it fair to say I have left it too late to get winter tyres at a good price? I didn't buy earlier in the year as I was about to change car and didn't know what size I would end up needing. In the past I bought Nokian. I think the first "model" I fitted was WG. When they became worn, that model had been discontinued and was replaced by WRG2, which I fitted. I can't say how good they...

misfire by John[_28_]
Does anyone know whether cylinder numbers are counted left to right or right to left? It is for a Megane 3dr uk rhd 04 plate. I had a misfire in cylinder 1 a few months ago and replace the two outer edge ignition coils knowing that I need to replace them in pairs and will have replaced 1 and 4. Just not sure whether 1 would have been far left or far right. Need to know cause I now have another...

How Do I Clamp A Clamp? by Turk182
A vile clamping conman called Ted Evans clamps cars on fake excuses in the village of Haworth , West Yorkshire. He is reportedly making hundreds of thousands of pounds from his crimes, though he claims he does not get penny of the proceeeds - and the police WON'T get involved. I would like to clamp over his clamp, and then conect a stream of friends cars together with chains, which if he...

Naff looking new MoT certificate by Mrcheerful
The new certificates are completely printed on plain A4 at the test station, there is nothing distinctive about them at all, not even an embossed stamp or a water mark. A very loseable piece of paper!

M5 crash by Spasticus Autisticus
I'm curious. Diesel doesn't burst into flames and it takes a lot to split a modern petrol tank open. What caused the inferno?

Loss of power by paulfoel
Got a Sedona Diesel automatic. Today, was driving along and it just lost power. Engine seemed to be as if it was lacking fuel. It completely just ground to a halt and wouldnt rev at all. Then it spluttered a bit and then was fine. This then happened a few times - lose power for a few secs and then splutter back into life. Any ideas? Bad fuel maybe?

Slow leak from alloy wheel - Mini by Mike Tomlinson
Since I bought my Mini, the offside front wheel has had a slow leak. It's not a puncture. I had the tyre removed and refitted, which didn't improve things, so had it replaced and it was OK for a while after that, but now it's started running flat again. The tyres are run-flat tyres. Could I use one of those puncture repair cans that squirts stuff into the tyre via the valve, a bit like Radweld...

Problem with brake heating up by Tunku[_2_]
Hi guys, have a problem with my V70 P2 2001 2.4i. I was driving home, a 13 mile journey when towards the end, after a fast bit, I flt the car start to quiver, as if one rear wheel had thrown its weights, it became hard to maintain speed on a light throttle. I was sure I'd had a puncture so I pulled in once I found a safe place. I got out the car and walked round it to check things. The rear...

grinding lipped brake discs by john east
Nine year old Corolla has just had the brake pads replaced and because they were squealing the garage sanded down the brake pads, but they are still noisy. The discs are 'lipped' (Car has done 75K miles) and we are told that must be the reason for the continuing noise. Looking on the internet, I see people have said take a file to the lip or put a grinding wheel in an electric drill and...

Grey internet by cryptogram
This is totally OT I know, but this is one of the few groups that gets visited these days, and I might get an answer. I want to know the name of the grey internet, or black internet, or something else internet, this being the internet that normally you cannot access. and need special software. It's frequented by drug dealers, identity thieves, scammers and all the rest of low life.

Focus rear brakes by Joseph[_3_]
I had a stab at doing the rear brakes on the focus, I had a bit of a nightmare with it to be honest. This focus has rear discs not the usual drum. The caliper comes off happily, the carriers comes off happily, pads out with a little wiggling. New discs went on fine, carrier back on, I put the pads on amd I *attempted* to get the caliper back on (in the rewound state of course) and I had a pig...

cost of replacing tyres by Fred[_7_]
Hi, I was thinking of buying some winter tyres from the internet and getting a local garage to fit them! For fitting tyres I supply myself, I have been quoted £10 per wheel. Is this about right? I am in the Midlands. TIA. Fred
