Serpentine belts. by Dave Plowman (News)
Replaced both these (one for the AC) on my E39 just over a year ago with Bosch ones bought from Eurocarparts. Had to have the waterpump changed at my local specialist who I've found to be scrupulously honest. And they said both needed changing. The smaller AC one had a split at exactly a right angle if you folded it. The longer one was cracked and breaking up on the ribbed face. The originals...

Earth lead comes off battery cause damage? by Steven Campbell
"T Rodger" TR wrote in message ... If the engine is running and the neg lead on car battery comes off, what would happen? Any damage? Its an old car with no fancy electronics. This happened to my Mrs car. The earth strap sheared while she was driving it. It hesitated momentarily when it happened (at least she thinks it happened then, when...

Earth lead comes off battery cause damage? by Christian McArdle
If the engine is running and the neg lead on car battery comes off, what would happen? Any damage? Its an old car with no fancy electronics. It might cause damage. It might not. It largely depends on how much the alternator regulator depends on the battery to smooth off the voltage spikes and how sensitive the car electronics are to those spikes. Christian.

Replacement Lamp holders/multi plugs. by Tom Burton
Hiya (again) Can one purchase replacement lampholding multi-plug do-dahs, the bit of formed plastic that has (in this case) three spade connectors embedded into it? Mine (Corsa) has deteriorated and im sure it is giving some electrical problems, I was going to simply cut it off and replace it with some spade connectors, unless there is a cheepo supplier of these plugs. Which I guess cant...

Advice buying Octavia by schander
Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some advice on an Octavia that I'm being offered. Its a Y plate 1.9 TDI Elegance with 76K on the clock, one owner. I'm pretty sure that it will have full Skoda service history and I know that alot of the miles are motorway miles, most of which will be done @ 60-65 mph. The guy wants £4200 for it. Is there anything that I should be looking

Work required after 75k service - advice by Conor
In article , David Mahon says... Just taken my wife's 4 year old Citroen Picasso in for a 75k service. Apparently it needs some work doing, but the computers were down so I couldn't get a price. Anyway, the temporary hand-written invoice says: Work required: OSF fog light bulb

The Cinquecento s 899cc by Howard Dean
Hi, I've just aquired a Fiat Cinquecento 899cc (R,1997)and it has a couple of problems. 1. There is a fan noise coming from around the passenger footwell that goes as the revs increase and also as the revs increase the brake light comes on the dash? (possible brake servo)? 2. The car is hunting at idle otherwise it's running ok. Thanks

Xantia Alternator Smoking by xantia@invalid.co.uk
1997 Xantia 1.9 TD Driving along normally tonight I smelt an electrical burning, looked under the bonnet and there was a fair bit of smoke coming from the alternator. No warning lights - everything electrical still appearing to work okay. Nothing electrical has been messed with recently. Is the alternator toast? Honda Accord 99 rattling door locks/latch by Rich
I have read that there is a TSB for the Accord (1999) to cure rattling door locks, involving some sort of plastic sleeve. I think mine is far too old to have it done for free at the dealer, but they couldn't identify any part numbers to buy the bits. Any help (Andy?!) on the TSB number (or copy of it), part numbers for the sleeves or any other info appreciated. Cheers all. Rich

balljoints - how worn is worn? by Mike P
Just changed both balljoints on my brothers ZX. They are obviously both worn , but I want to know how worn. On the replacements you can't even move the shank by hand, on the worn ones, they wobble freely with no force at all. How can I tell just how worn they are for next time? I'm guessing these ones are totally worn out as the car actually drives nicely again... Mike P

MOT Standards by petermcmillan_uk@yahoo.com
Has anybody noticed a drop in the MOT Standards since they have started linking them up with the DVLA? I've recently had my MOT, and they said it would be longer because they need to link up with the DVLA. The little booklet they gave me tells me that it will bring benefits to the moroists by... "helping us to improve the consistency and standard of testing", and a few other reasons are...
