How to check HT leads are in correct order? by mrcheerful .
"AJ" wrote in message ... How do you check the HT leads are fitted in the correct order. Mine have numbers on them (1-4). But somebody has installed them as 1,2,3 and 4. When the Haynes manual says they should be fitted 1-3-4-2. I don't suppose it matters as long as they are fitted right at the other end. the 1342 bit is...

Cranking car - do I need to disconnect ignition first? by Guy King
The message from AJ contains these words: I am not doing a compression test, just cranking to get rid of any water. Do I need to disconnect it? Probably wise - it'll stop any fuel getting squirted in. All plugs at once. However - if the engine was running when you came out of the flood then

Cranking engine - nothing happening? by Guy King
The message from AJ contains these words: I removed all the plugs and now wish to crank it to get rid of any water from the pistons. How do I crank it to do this? Is this simply turning the key in the ignition? Yes. Is the battery flat? --

Too much petrol in the tank by Edward
Hi all, Last night I filled my 1999 Fiesta up at a Tesco garage, and must have put too much in. It was fine at the time - I drove the 5 miles home without a problem - but when I got into the car this afternoon I smelt petrol. I checked under the car - no obvious leaks - and then opened the petrol tank. Petrol spurted out, so I quickly closed it, ran and got a bucket and tissues and opened it...

Help! Ford Focus Ghia 1999 Door Lock Motor - different types? Double Locking or not? by Simon Stroud
Hello, a question for you Ford experts! Just replaced the rear passenger side door lock/motor as it had started locking/unlocking only intermittently. The new one works fine BUT doesn't seem to feature "double locking". The other three doors still seem to double lock OK, either from the key fob or the front door keyhole. Also I suspect the alarm also isn't getting switched on when I try to...

Connecting an alarm LED by Rob
I want to connect a dummy alarm LED, (basically so an LED lights up to pretend I have an alarm; as I'm selling the car soon). However, I have a 2 volt LED and want to connect it to my 12 volt battery in some way. What can I connect it to? As surely all the mains wires are running at 12 volt? So is there a step down transformer that I can get or anyway around it?

Suzuki 4x4 LED Brake Light by Stuffed
It's not my car (thank god, stupid 4x4 shiny playwagon POS), but does anyone know where to get the long thin red LED brake light strip that fits into the "spoiler" on the back of one of these things? Someone I know's got one that looks to have burnt out half a dozen of the LEDs, with another 2 having popped right off the PCB. The dealership say they don't sell them, and much though it's not to...

Xantia 1.9TD '94 by marpate1@yahoo.co.uk
Hi all, I recently purchased a Xantia 1.9TD on an L plate. The car shows that it's done only 62k, and I don't have any reason to doubt that (yet!). The problem that I have is that it doesn't return very good economy at between 30-35mpg (measured over 4 tankfulls). The journey for this is a 25 mile each way commute at 70mph for the majority of the run. Now, my question (having never owned a...

G5 alarm stickers by Andy
Does anyone know where I can get just the window stickers for the Clifford G5 car alarm? Or does anyone have two they would like to sell? The stickers have a silver foil like backing to them and look fairly fancy, (as a rough description). Cheers

breather problems by not_here.5.species8350@xoxy.net
I drive a peugeot 205 1.6 gti. I do a lot of town driving and the breather is always getting clogged. Hence I need to clean it every few days. Recently, I noticed that the breather was much cleaner, and noticed that there was a small split in the narrow pipe that connects the oil filler cap to the throttle housing. The car runs well. I was thinking of repairing the split, then making a hole a...

Spark plug symptoms? by Guy King
The message from AJ contains these words: Do people on here bother to use anti seize compound when installing spark plugs? Would engine oil do?Or that no-corrode jelly stuff that you can put on battery terminals do? Yes, no and no; in that order. Copper grease is your friend. Use it (nearly) everywhere.
