number plate peeling by Fred[_7_]
Hi, I bought a 60 plate Mondeo from a Ford dealer in November 2011. I've noticed the number plates, both front and back, are peeling. The best way I can describe it is as if there is "cling film" peeling off the number plate. I tried phoning the dealer to see whether they might change them free of charge considering I've only recently bought the car but I'm waiting for a reply.

VAG pricing etc by Nige[_6_]
I'm looking around for a new company car, we tend to stick to VW's etc. I wanted a skoda octavia scout, but 7 month waiting list for full book price isnt that tempting, especially with the emissions etc. I got looking at a vRS Estate 170hp diesel, got chatting & brand new on the road price of £18,400.00, which is about £4k off list 170bhp, 149gm/km & huge carrying ability just seems bloody...

Experience of parking cameras? by Biggles[_2_]
I'm thinking about fitting either parking sensors or a parking camera to my car - I'm currently inclined to go for a camera, partly because I'm also intending to fit a tow bar and I know there can be issues with these and parking sensors. I'd be grateful for any advice on makes/models of camera/screen, good and bad points about them. Some models have screens which fit over the rear view...

Rover 25 poor starting - Thanks to David by Andy Cap[_5_]
Hi David After trying the de-fusing of the fuel pump several times, I was pretty convinced that a leaking injector *was* the problem, though even after letting the pump run, there was a slight hesitancy on start up. I fitted a set of reconditioned and thoroughly tested injectors a week ago, obtained on Ebay (injectors4you) and since then, starting has been impeccable, even on a couple of...

Nissan electric car ...expensive? by john east
in the online independent today they have an article on the new Nissan Leaf electric car. but they want to sell it at £25,000. why would they want to charge so much? it must be a lot cheaper to make, ie an electric motor as opposed to a petrol engine? That initial cost is bound to put a lot of people off, i would have thought?

Focus battery by Micheal
Asking for a friend at work ironically we have the same car. 1.8 04 petrol focus ghia I know the focus needs a special calcium battery ? something to do with the smart charge system so you can't use a regular lead one. Basically his battery has given up the ghost after 8 loyal years. He spotted a bosch s4 075 battery 60Ah/540cca at his local motor factors BUT

12v diesel pump capacity? by Harry Bloomfield[_3_]
Roughly, what would be the litre per hour of a diesel cars fuel pump? Just looking for one to pump oil and wondered if one might fit the bill. Can I also safely assume that they all are continuous rotary pumps, just needing a continuous 12v across them, rather than any being a solenoid type pump? Would it also be safe to assume that they can also self prime?

4-wheel tracking by Another Dave
I had my car serviced recently at the main dealer who said I had uneven tyre wear at the front. So I took it to a local tyre specialist (whom I know and trust) who put it on this amazing machine. The rear camber was out, the rear and front tracking was out and, finally, the front camber was out. Only the front tracking was adjustable. So... if only the front tracking is adjustable what use...

Corsa C coolant leak ? by TonyB
My son's corsa C 1.2L 16V SXi has been suffering from a loss of coolant plus you see a "mayonnaise" like substance when you remove the oil cap, which looks like emulsified oil. The oil level is ok, but the oil pressure light does flash on/off occasionally while driving along. He mainly does lots of very short journeys. I suspected a head gasket problem so we took it to the our local garage...

Jacking front of focus by Jeff[_8_]
04 focus 1.8 I've just gotten done doing the rear pads and discs (amen with the piston rewind tool) and am planning on the doing the front pads and discs weather permitting this weekend. Instead of jacking one side at a time I may as well jack the front end up and get on with it. Wheres the best spot to jack up the front end on the focus and stick the axle stands.

BMW 325i bottom suspension joints by Periproct
Being a shade lazy here because I could always go and ask a man who does, but.... Anybody have a rough idea how much it would cost to have both bottom suspension joints replaced on a BMW 325i? (I haven't used the services of a garage in decades and haven't the faintest idea of labour costs). Much prefer to do my own work but having replaced both balls joints on a 318i I know they are a pig...

Battery voltage low ? by Jeff[_8_]
mk 1.5 04 1.8 focus petrol Last week my wife had the RAC come out as she had a flat tyre and was unable to losen 2 of the lugs. She mentioned it took a few goes maybe 2/3 times a months to start it so he did a battery check and it read as 12.48v "good battery" "re-charge" I've just topped up all the fluids before a long drive today and put a meter across it and its reading as 12.37v is this...

Power steering whine by Paul Giverin
2005 Focus 2.0 TDCi. Over the past couple of days I've been getting a high pitched whine when I turn sharp right at low speeds. It doesn't make any noise when turning left. The noise is identical to the one in this youtube clip:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y7KlTCd1Sw I've not been able to check the power steering fluid level yet as on this model its a sealed for life, no maintenance...

The right torque wrench by john east
In a leaflet in a newspaper Argos have just reduced the price of 'challenge' micrometer torque wrench from £22 to £15. My spark plugs on my Corolla need a torque of 25Nm (18lb/ft). In argos blurb it says this wrench reads from 28Nm to 210 Nm. So i guess that rules it out. Would anyone recommend a *reasonably-priced* wrench from somewhere, to fit my spark plugs in with please?

focus t'stat housing leak by Micheal
I've been losing coolant and have found the leak its on the thermostat housing a minor leak but I'm having to top up every week which will no doubt get worse. This part is a bit pricey for a glorified bit of plastic. I'm contemplating a my last bodge of the year before my new years resolutions kick in .. no more bodges. My using some gasket sealer on both surfaces to create a better seal...

Diesel not starting properly by dent
Hi all, About a year ago, my Volvo V50 turbo-diesel started playing up with starting. It wouldn't always catch first time, and would sometimes take ages to start up. There didn't seem to be any pattern to it: hot or cold, waiting a few minutes after turning the ignition on or waiting only a few seconds, and so on. Battery was fine. Glow plugs fine. In the end I took it to a garage who suspected...

Oil on spark plugs by Peter Spikings
Hi all, Just fitted new plugs to my Fiesta (1.25L Zetec) and noticed that the plug for the cylinder furthest from the drivebelt (passenger side) had a fair bit of engine oil on the threads (but none on the firing tip). There was no oil around the plug hole. I think this might tie in with why it's been drinking about half a litre every 4-6 weeks since Ford did a cambelt change in August IIRC :/...

Identify part of fuel system! by Mark
1998 Pug 106 1124cc Petrol. Noticing a smell of petrol when I park the car, I looked for the source. I could see a lot of moisture on the bottom of the fuel tank, seemingly originating from the corner of the tank, where there is a .... what? I wish I knew because I broke off one of the connectors and can't fix it. It's not the fuel filter, that is elsewhere. It's the white container these two...
