Automatic brake adjusters by
Ian
Good People
I have just fitted new rear shoes and cylinders to Micra Number 2.
Instead of decent. god-fearing brake adjusters it has the spawn of
satan automatic sort, and they are now, of course, fully unadjusted.
What does one do at this stage? Lots of hand brake applications? Lots
of foot brake applications? Or just don't worry and assume that
they'll do their stuff in the fullness of...

Pug 206 over reving by
Swarfmaker
I bought a 206 last weekend. 1.4 on a T plate with 82K on the clock. Drove
it 20 odd miles home with no problems. I've had it parked up in the drive
since, as I've not taxed it yet. Started it up this evening and the revs
shot straight up to 2.7K and stayed there. Turned it off then on again -
same thing. Turned it off then on and it idled perfectly. Any ideas as to
what to look for? Car is for...

So that's where the boost went... by
Adrian
On Saturday evening, the 900's boost went on holiday. The ghost got a bit
louder, and the boost gauge only just went above atmospheric pressure.
Quick look on Sunday in the rain showed that the boost pipework was all
firmly in place, nothing obvious, and the various vac hoses seemed not to
be open to the atmosphere, so I dropped by the workshop this morning,
thinking it was probably the...

Volvo 960 2.4 Turbo diesel by
Mark
Had a bit of trouble starting this thing recently. Have to turn engine about
10 times to get it to fire. Usually fires as soon as the glowplug light goes
out. I've checked obvious like air in fuel line to injection pump (it has a
clear section so you can look for air bubbles). I've checked resistance of
all six glow plugs and they are all about 0.6 Ohms. Diesel return pipes fuel
tight and no...

2000 X reg

It was last serviced about 6,000 miles ago and is generally running
fine apart from the problem I will try to describe below.
Occasionally, when it has not fully warmed up, but isn't freezing
cold, it will rev by iteslf, ie with no pressure on the accellerator

Whats this Zafira warning light by
MW[_2_]
Bit if a dumb question I know but can't find it in the book. What is the
warning light that looks like a car with a spanner sticking out of the
roof? Its by the "7" on the rev counter.
It comes on sometimes after a mile or so driving. Not engine management,
that has its own little picture of an engine. Service due? according to
the book that puts up "InSP" on the mileometer. (BTW I don't have...

Toyota avensis storage on dashboard by

The storage space with the lid on top of the dashboard
vibrates annoyingly at low speed. Is it easy to take it
out and put padding behind it so it stops?

Peugeot 306 HDI Fuel Consumption by
JackH
I've recently borrowed a 2000 model Peugeot 306 90bhp HDI whilst my other
main car is off the road.
I've found that on day in day out short journeys etc, it manages 43mpg.
Doesn't seem too bad really.
However, yesterday we did a leisurely 200 miles in it mainly on quiet
country lanes and single carriageway A roads, wafting along at 55 to 60mph
most of the time, with maybe 20 miles worth of...

Astra service by
RJ[_2_]
Hi, i just bought a new 08 Astra with 1300 miles on the clock. The service
book has no service history in it yet but i wondered when it needs its first
minor service. Its the first car i've owned this young and i know at one
time the first oil change was at a low mileage. Is this still the case and
should i be booking it in at a dealer to keep the warranty valid?

Heater plugs by
Hiram[_2_]
The heater plugs on my 10 year old Peugeot 106 are, I think, failing. The
car is harder to start in the cold weather and runs a bit rough for a few
seconds.
But the question is - can I just put up with it, without it causing any
addition damage to the engine?
Cheers

Rover thermostat by
robgraham[_2_]
I have a P reg Rover 216 petrol. I cannot find the thermostat. Haynes glibly
says remove the bottom hose from the thermostat housing and remove the
latter with two bolts. But in my case the hose comes out from the rad, goes
up about 9 inches and then connects to a metal pipe that curves round to the
back of the engine. Is the thermostat on the engine end of this metal pipe?
I can't actually...

Service book stamps by
JW
Hi,
I just bought a Peugeot 307 1.6 HDi 90 and there's something odd about
the stamps in the service book;
i) The first stamp is just a sticker which says, "The previous
operator of this car was contractually obliged to maintain the vehicle
observing Peugeot service requirements and so the validity of the
warranty is not affected by the absence of a dealer stamp in respect
of the first service."

No pressure on clutch pedal - can't change gear by
Al Reynolds
Hi,
I've just gone out to my 97 Honda Accord and there is no pressure on my
clutch pedal.
If I push it down, it goes all the way to the floor, and if I then lift it a
little the spring causes
it to come back up. Initially there was a little bit of pressure bringing
it back up, but now
there's none (engine off or on).

Cars steaming up inside this time of year by
Dave Baker
Are there any that don't? My Focus is pretty good in this respect being the
newest car I've owned for a while and not afflicted by bleeding great holes
in the undercarriage like the XR2i that preceded it but it still steams up
inside, mainly on the front windscreen, on particularly cold and damp days.
Part of the problem I suspect is it never gets a decent run to dry it out
thoroughly inside...
