Recommend me a car cover by
Krycek
I'm going to leave my car for a few months as I'm out the country. Can
anyone recommend a good car cover to use while I'm gone?
It's a 2002 Golf, but a universal one will do!
Thanks

Thanks

Peugeot 106 fuel gauge by
Hiram
I have a 98 Peugeot 106 which I have just bought to run backwards and
forwards to work.
The fuel gauge doesn't work - I'd like to see if I can fix it.
Where should I start my fault finding?
I've have had a look at the fuses, can't see anything wrong. I assume
the tank sender will be ok, could it be a broken wire from the tank?

Mk 2 Golf - Oil light on by
DavidA
Hi
I have an old (1989) Mk 2 Golf 1600 Auto that has done 130k miles.
Sometimes while driving the oil pressure warning light comes on dimly
or full on, and then goes off again. Also, the head lights and dash
lights often dim at the same time that the oil light comes on. The oil
light also comes on sometimes when the headlights are off.
Please can someone advise me what to check (apart from the...

Astra engine noise? by
asahartz
My brother-in-law has a noise from his 2000 W-plate Astra 1.6 engine
that I can't identify.
I'd describe it as a light clattering which only appears when the engine
is picking up revs - it doesn't happen at any set engine speed or if I
raise the speed gently, but when the engine accelerates.
I couldn't identify for definite where it is coming from either, but it
does seem to be from the upper...

tomm[_2_]
A friend has a petrol peugeot 307 about 3 year old.
The engine warning light has appeared on the dashboard display
along with a message reading "anti pollution fault "
They can drive the car ok and the performance seems normal but can anyone
tell me what can be causing the fault lights ?

205 1.1 Compression problem by
[email protected]
I just bought a really tidy 36,000 mile G-reg 205 1.1 (TU engine) for
a very low price, because the cambelt had gone.
I've had the head off and replaced all the exhaust valves, plus two of
the inlets. All the valves ground in nicely and I crack-tested the
head before that - with a Molyslip 3-pack aerosol kit and it was AOK.
Not warped at all either.
Now that I've put the head back on, with a...

Oil for old Astra by
Gareth Magennis
Hi,
ever since I bought my Mk3 Astra, petrol 1.4, 135,000 miles now, I've been
using Castrol GTX for High Mileage Cars. I change oil and filter regularly,
due for a change now really.
Is this "specially for old motors" oil good stuff, or am I just another one
of those dumb consumers taken in by the hype?

99 Avensis 1.8 funnies? by
T i m
Hi All,
A mate is trying to sort an Avensis, if you slowly take the revs up to
about 3k it starts dropping and rasing it's revs, like a boy racer
would, revving it at the lights? ;-(
He's scoped the injectors and they are definatly cutting in and out
(with the drop / raise in revs).
The camshaft sensor checks out ok, as did the map and throttle

Ford 1.4 TDCi cambelt by
mike
I've acquired a Ford Fusion with 89000 on the clock.
The Ford Service Checksheet gives 150,000 or ten year to renew the cam belt.
Is this a realistic target or should I be looking to renew it sooner.

Curious tyre sqeal yesterday by
Dave Baker
Headed off to the lake at 7am yesterday to persecute some carp at which I
failed miserably and only managed to catch a couple of skimmer bream. When
it went dead mid afternoon as the temperature soared I called it a day and
drove home. On the way back the tyres started squealing like stuck pigs on
left handers at quite modest cornering speeds. Ok maybe not modest for
Granny Walton but modest...

Is there such a thing? - it just strikes me as a bit wasteful to have a
