Mondeo reversing light switch. by David C[_2_]
Hi All. I hate to ask what seems to be a stupid question, but..... I've a '56 registered old-shape Mondeo, with the 6-speed manual gearbox, & the reversing lights / parking sensors have stopped working again. I can't find any fault with the fuse, & usually after a couple of days, normal service resumes!

Peugeot 106 squeaky gear lever? by Krycek
My brothers car suffers from a squeaky gear lever - every time he changes gear, doesn't matter if the engine is running or not. Is this a common problem? Any quick fixes? Thanks Mark.

Battery replacement in key fob by Tim[_8_]
i have an o6 sharan and one of the remotes no longer works although the tell tale red light still blinks. I assume the battery is low. The handbook says dealer replacement of battery is required. Is that true? Cannot it be done by me or is there some computer input required. Tks Andy

How you can save fuel and the environment by peakoil
Driving and Car Maintenance Transportation accounts for 66% of U.S. oil use -mainly in the form of gasoline. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to improve gas mileage. Driving Tips:- Idling gets you 0 miles per gallon. The best way to warm up a vehicle is to drive it. No more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days is needed. Anything more simply wastes fuel and increases emissions.- Aggressive...

Is this an oil leak? by Peter Boulton[_2_]
There appears to be a small oil leak coming from a metal tube that loops round in front of the radiator in my 2001 Honda Accord 2l petrol. For clarity, I've uploaded a photo to: http://www.dataper.demon.co.uk/pictures/leak/oilleak.jpg Am I right in thinking that is part of the oil system and not hydraulics? The fluid appears to be oil. When the engine is cold there are just a few drops...

Need a garage able to undertake this repair by T[_2_]
I have a old Nissan Sunny that needs a new set of copper brake pipes. I have been advised that there are six pipes involved. The garage which undertook the MOT says that this will be such an expensive job that it is not worth doing even though the car is otherwise in good condition. I would like to ask if anyone knows of any garage that can undertake this type of work for an agreed...

Fiat Cinquecento handbrake??? by Redwood
It's a 1994 basic 900cc box on wheels. I've been asked to give it the once over for a mates daughter who recently passed her test. Seems tidy for it's age & 12 months mot but got an adisory on the handbrake (Your vehicle has only just met the required park brake efficiency). Well I'm not sure how it passed cos one side does **** all and the other may just hold on level ground if you're...

focus Window regulator by mr p
My Electric window regulator seems to have gone wrong.. the cable got all tangled up and then I snapped the plastic cable retainer on the window bracket. I was just wandering if gluing/ re-winding the cable is going to be a workable cure or is a new regulator the only option ? Did they change the design of these at some point, it seems remarkably flimsy. I never really open the rear windows...

Replacing battery in old(er) BMW by Geo[_2_]
My friend has a duff 71Ah Varta battery in an M reg BMW 3 series. Halfords do a £95 replacement but is there any problem in just replacing it in this model? The car is located in a barn in the Highlands 60 odd miles from the nearest Halfords. Google mutters about reseting some diagnostic to tell the car about Ah etc but not sure if that applies to his model? --

Another old Mk2 Mondeo problem. Engine mounts? by Mike Barnard
Hello all. Mk2, 1997, manual 2.0. I had a problem with the engine idling fast recently. (Cured with a new coolant sensor and an ECU reset). However I wonder if the continious pulling about had damaged something like the engine mounts. Driving along slowly, gentle on and off the throttle as is normal in town driving. But it feels as if the engine is moving around, a sort

Oil and filter change by Hiram[_2_]
I need to change the oil on my car. I was wondering if its worth doing it myself or to go to a service centre for them to do it for 30 quid? I was thinking by the time I have bought the oil and the filter, plus dispose of the old oil, I may as well get someone to do it.

Power steering pump bearing by [email protected]
The power steering pump bearing on my Proton (so a mitsubishi) has started to make a noise. Is it possible to get a service kit for these with the bearings and seals? Or do I need to get a replacement pump?

Mondeo steering/braking problem by [email protected]
It's an Mk1 Mondeo with a strange problem. When driving straight, the steering wheel is off-center. Then, when I brake, the wheel comes back to center and stays there even after releasing the brake, and the car continues to go straight. Very soon (or immediately if I accelerate) the steering wheel goes off again. If I hold the steering wheel loosely during this brake-accelerate action and allow...

Changing brake fluid by Blatant Blue
I'd like to change the brake fluid on my Puggy 206. Rather than drain it all out and start with empty pipes I thought of topping the reservoir up and undoing the nipples to pump the old stuff out until the new fluid comes through. The problem is how do I know when the old fluid has been pumped out and the new fluid has reached the nipple? The new fluid after all is the same colour as the...
