Click click click problem when starting by john royce
Have an old Corolla, which the son used yesterday and on his way home, it wouldn't start for him; but he was able to get help with a 'push start' and it then started O.K. When I looked at it early this morning the battery was really flat, so I put it on the trickle charger. Since the car had quite a good run the day before yesterday we thought this might be a charging problem. This...

One for the MX5-istas by PCPaul
A mate has just inherited an old but almost completely functional Eunos roadster. We got the dead brake lights going after finding a translation of the Japanese fusebox online. Next thing is one of the electric windows is dead - he says he remembers the previous owner getting 'all the cables and stuff' from one that was being broken on EBay, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Are they...

f1 autocentre tyre balancing charges by Fred[_7_]
Hello, I needed some new tyres on a Citroen C3 car. I got out the yellow pages and called a couple of local garages and the big names: Kwik Fit, National Tyres, ATS, F1 autocentres, etc. F1 autocentres asked what car and what tyre size and their price seemed the best. I had been to the garage a couple of years before - for tyres for the same car - and I remembered their prices and service had...

Hi there, I wonder if someone can help me please. I have a 1.4l Ford Fiesta TDCi (05 plate). It was serviced in May and passed its MOT last week. However, there is a problem in that it keeps losing power. When I leave home I get about 1 mile down the road (doing 20-30mp in

Window regulator failure by Doki
One of the window regulators on my girlfriend's golf has failed - the wire that pulls the window back up has come off. The one that pulls the window down is still fine. Is it possible to connect them back up, or am I wasting my time?

World White Population Set to Drop from 17% to 7% by 2050 by White Man Fight
As a percentage of world inhabitants, the white population will plummet to a single digit (9.76%) by 2060 from a high-water mark of 27.98% in 1950. Using 2010 as the base reference, the big gainer in the population derby will be blacks or sub-Sahara Africans. This group will expand almost 133% to 2.7 billion by 2060. By the middle of this century blacks will represent 25.38% of world...

Having a clear out of engine parts in the workshop by Dave Baker
I've been sorting through the shelves of engine parts in the workshop accumulated over 20 years of building race engines for people. Lots of stuff about to be chucked unless someone wants it. Mostly free to collect unless it has any scrap or sale value like the ally stuff and new parts. Everything is at Chalfont St Peter near Slough. 1) Complete 1.8 Pinto Sierra engine taken out of my own...

VAG gear linkages - main dealer aprt? by A.Lee
I had the misfortune of having a gear linkage break today on my Octavia (with Audi 1.8 engine). It is the sort of 'L' shaped plastic link from the cable to the selectors, right on top of the gearbox. Why they ever made it in plastic is beyond me. I rang a couple of motor factors, who say it is a main dealer part - how likely will it be for me to get one in the morning from a dealer? Or do you...

Ka door loom q. by T i m
Hi all, I was idly examining the cable assy that joins the o/s door electrics to the car today and found it to be a multi-pole bayonet type plug thing. The rubber boot is split and it looks like someone has had a go at fixing some broken wires in there (and may explain why the o/s speaker isn't working) so can you easily buy a new door loom and rubber and what sort of cost please?

Mini - how to extend central locking to passenger door? by Mike Tomlinson
2003 Mini Cooper. The central locking only operates on the driver's door when opening. On locking using the fob, both doors lock, so the relevant bits presumably are present. Can the central locking when unlocking be extended to include the passenger door? The handbook is silent on the subject. Thanks. --

Ping: Ian J. - Air con recharge by Ken[_4_]
Ian, A few weeks ago you posted about the V70 with dead aircon. Did you get it sorted and, if so, where did you get it regassed? And were they any good? I'm not too far away from you and have similarly dead aircon (on a Mondeo). The options in the Yellow Pages are somewhat sparse. TIA.

What MPV? by asahartz
Our Toyota Previa is getting a bit elderly and ready for replacement. The later model does not really cut it for us - we need enough weight and power to tow a 1300kg twin axle caravan. It must be a full-size MPV as we need to transport two hockey goalie bags as well as a full complement of passengers, and it must be an automatic. And we can't afford new - it will likely be about 03 reg. Not many...
