Default Focus strange electrical chirp sound

Morning all,

I have a weird problem that just started last night. Basically I turned the
car on, turned the lights on and there was a audible chirp kind of like a
cheap toy with a dying battery is best I can describe it. It was a beep no
lights are on the dash and the car is running as normal.

It sounds like it came from the dashboard.

I cannot find out in the manual anywhere despite going through it twice if
this is a audible warning for something ? or a malfunction of some kind.

I know if sounds a little vague I'm just wondering if any one may know what
its about ?

Thanks

Perhaps there is a cheap toy with a dying battery stuck behind the
dash? ;-)

The only time there is a noise that could be described as a chirp is when
you initiate the key programming procedure by turning the ignition on/off
a number of times in fairly quick succession. Perhaps you did that
accidentally? Is it still doing it? If not, forget all about it.

Lol, you never know!

Its an odd noise, chap at the local garage said amusingly sounds like an
electrical fault sometimes cars electrics make weird noises with weak
batteries. Although I had a battery check a few months back and said all it
needed was a re-charge and was working fine. Not bad for a 7 year old
battery!

He gave it a scan for any DTC's and was clear FOC nice chap does all the bit
I don't want to or can't hehe

I did not initiate the key programming sequence.

What I did was turn the lights on, then the ignition to start the car and
chirp chirp *in comes the cheap toy*... with the car running if you turn the
lights off, then on again in 5 seconds does it again, an odd one but all
lighting is working as it should.

Normally i ignore stuff like this lol but its a smidge annoying!

Still doing it now after a drive an hour ago.

Perhaps I should just ignore it, everything is working fine, just thought I
may as well ask in case any one had a similar issue, a google suggests many
people have had this problem and one interesting post on talkford said
changing the battery cured this problem. I'm not sure I want to cough up for
a new battery. I'm a more wait till signs of dying kick in then I change. I
have no issues with the current battery so...seems a tad excessive for such
an issue.

....the plot goes on, tin foil back on head, as this post makes me sound a
bit loopy hunting chirps.

A twist in the plot to report

I was changing a blown head light on the drivers side, took a few minutes
thankfully. I did have a bit of bother on the passenger side last year but
do-able just fiddly.

The bonnet was up and I tested the light it worked fine, the chirp squeal
sound was much louder as I was fiddling with the headlight aim on the
adjuster on the headlight on switch as the motor moves if is making this
annoying noise, no sure why the motor would move if just turning the lights
on but it is. So turns out no cheap toys hidden woohooo.

So I guess its a fault with the headlight as opposed to the switch as the
noise is coming from the motor on the headlight... I think its a motor that
controls that movement or a little rat with pulleys.

Hopefully this won't cause a bother come MOT time if the aim is off and they
can't adjust it due to a failing headlight motor. If it does I guess it
looks simple enough to swap over.

Thought it might be of interest to you so I posted above findings.

Forgot to add, unless the offending bit can be replaced individually.
Guessing its a motor/adjuster knowing my luck ifs a new head light if I do
fix.

I found something like this when we acquired a 52 plate Ka. Watch the
clock carefully. The chirps were the regular, pulsed movement of the
minute hand on the analog clock.

Now I don't know the Focus, it's clock may or may not be analog, but if
it is analog, that may be your answer.

This noise is bl**dy annoying 'til you know what it is!

Had the exact fault on mine and is a common fault talked about on
fordownersclub. Basically the plunger part that sits in a socket cracks
causing this annoying noise. I changed the headlight for £30 from ebay took
10 mins and £5 at the local garage to sort the aim out. The motors from ford
costs and arm and leg, like evreything else.
