Default Extra key for corsa 2002 reg

My son would like a spare key for 02 reg corsa which he bought with only 1
key.
Dealers seem to charge about £160 for a key which seems a bit steep.

I have found blank keys with transponder chips for around £10 on ebay, but
these would need cutting and I guess the car would need some sort of
reprogramming to use the new transponder as well, which I believe auto
locksmiths can do.
But I haven't found anywhere that supplies the section containing the remote
switches/battery holder/circuit board that slides into the key body ? Can
these be purchased anywhere, and will this require reprogramming as well, or
just the usual resync procedure you use when the battery is replaced ?

Thanks
Tony

Not all keys can be coded up by autolocksmiths , many citroens , pugs
and fiats are dealer only as they have to access the ecu software

I wanted a spare key for my Astra and found my local cobbler kiosk could
supply, cut and program it from my original for £25.
I actually had the same thing done at a Car Boot sale for £20. Worked fine.

Er, that might have been my Escort, but anyway, go see your cobbler.

It depends on which vehicle you drive and the Manufacturer .

Some keys are preprogrammed and the ECU is actually programmed to
accept the key , and its generally a dealer only operation

Last time I asked them to do a Ford key, they were (slightly) dearer then
the main dealer.

I found an independent locksmith who did one for half the price, although
no programming was involved.
